I read some where that if you retard the exhaust cam one tooth you can get a nice bump in power. On monday the car is getting a new belt and water pump, should i ask my mechanic to retard my exhaust cam?.

The car is 100% stock for the moment, but has a rebuild in it's future

In the thread title I used "base" timing, sorry if that is the wrong term......

So I shouldn't do it because it will help me spool and make more top end?

:p obviously only considering it for the top end benefits

I guess the better question is why shouldn't I do this?

Cause I said so :p

No j/k, it's not worth it. The power increase will be minimal w/ a t-25 that can hardly even keep up in the upper power band. Do you really need help spinning that lil thing, common.
The proper way to do it, would be wiith adjustable cam gears. Generally people advance the intake a few degrees, and retard the exhaust cam a degree or two, but that varies from set up to set up. You will see minimal gains with stock cams and a t-25. Your hp to $ will be pathetic. Spend your money elsewhere wisely :thumb:

Agreed. I'm not expecting the engine to jump out of the hood by rotating the cam back a notch. I was just thinking if i am already going to be in the head, and if it will help (even a little) why not do it? The cost to me is nothing.

Later when I am in there putting cams in, I can reset them to OE and run some comp cams

The lumpy idle and low end power loss you will acquire probably isn't worth the trade off for minimal upper power band gains for your daily driver.
