So right now i'm trying to decide on a exaust system. Its either between the buschur racing 3 inch manderal bent system for like $435 or so. Or getting the apexi n-1 muffler and finding a local shop to make the pipeing from the cat back for me. I called all around and nobody does 3 inch manderal bent except for 1 shop. But i think all they would do is weld different peices of manderal bent pipeing together to make it work. They said it would be around $325 for the pipeing and then it would cost me another 195 for the muffler. So thats like $515 or so. I can get it cheaper but in press bent. So is the manderal bent worth the extra money? Also which of the two seems like a better deal out of, 435 for the buschur racing or around 515 for the apexi n-1 with custom pipeing?

Really all it boils down too is how much you want out of the car, cause you wouldn't see many benefits from a full mandrel exhaust with a fairly stock engine.

Just my opinion though
Darryl

well which do you think would flow better... this O or this o... cuz O is the 3" pipe & o is the 3" pipe after it's press bent.

Yeah your right i guess i was just hopeing you would say no it doesn't matter so i wouldn't have to spend as much. I think i'm just gonna get the apexi n-1 and have the shop custom make the pipeing. Its gonna cost me more but if i want my car to hit the low 12's maybe even 11's i guess i better do things right. I guess i'm just gonna have to wait on my rims for a while. Does spending around 525 seem to much?

For $525.. why don't you just order the apexi N1 catback exhaust? Won't have to worry about some subpar exhaust shop welds falling apart in a few years. RRE has the N1 catback for $490.

Unless you are running over 125 mph traps, I am not so sure mandrel bent vs. pressbent really matters.

I ran 124 on a 2.5" down pipe, and 3" pressbent exhaust. Picked up about 2.5 mph with no exhaust.

Mike Huml

Well wouldn't i have the get the apexi catback system welded together also? I don't think they could ship it all in 1 piece.

the reality of it all boild down to just how tight the bends are. i have a buschur pressbent 2.5" downpipe and it is only slightly smaller than my 2.5" mandrel catback bends. however if my catback was pressbent then it'd be a big deal because of the extremely sharp turns it makes will cause it to neck down even further.

RRE is the most reliable company out there. Order the cat back from them and it will come in two pieces which you bolt up. It can be shipped to your door and no worries about the shotty workmanship of the muffler shop. A muffler shop is in no way a performance shop.

Press bent is more like a 0 then a O when it comes down to the corners. You want exhaust to flow out as smooth as possible.

I think mandrel bends are overrated performance wise. Yes it flows a lot better if you have mandrel bends, but if buschur ran 11's with a PRESSBENT 2.5" exhaust, I don't see why a pressbent 3" shouldn't flow enough for 450+ hp. My car right now has a 2.5" mandrel bent dp and 3" the rest wich is half mandrel bent and it has two 45 degree pressbends. A friend of mine gained 30 whp on the dyno with a 3" that was half mandrel bent and half pressbent. You shouldn't worry too much about maximum exhaust flow unless you want over 450whp.

I would listen to what Mike Huml (Slowboy) has to say about this as he is the only person to respond that I know is on the "Fastest DSM's list."
He knows what he's talking about because he IS that fast.
I don't know him personally, but he gave me some really good advice a long time ago (I'm sure he doesn't know me because I wasn't on here yet) and don't think he would lead you in the wrong direction.

RNR Racing $550 turbo back with o2 eliminator down pipe mandrel bent pipe. That's the best price I know of on a complete turbo back. Add 50$ for 3" pipe I think. I read an article one time comparing manrel to crush bent. They claim that a smaller mandrel will flow more than a larger crushed. The reason for this is because with exhaust you want flow not just volume( bigger pipe). Every time the pipe gets smaller where it's crushed it creates turbulance in the pipe and that hurts flow.Yes volume helps but not if you don't have a good flow. Yes mandrel is better but it's up to you.

I think i'm gonna order the apexi system tomarrow. But don't no if i should wait to install it untill i get the buschur racing downpipe. Or can i just leave the catback part on while i put on the downpipe?

If you're gonna order the exhaust from RRE.. might as well go ahead & get their "long downpipe" that eliminates the cat & also the need for the test pipe (since it's built in to the DP). I ordered the exact same setup for a local guy from RRE & it worked very well together.

Good advice, but since this guy's in CA, he's gonna have to watch out for the smog nazis. He will probably have to get one with a cat (or at least can switch one in for smog testing).
