Hey guys, how are y'all today? Anyways I've got a question about a 91 gst I am purchasing. It has an evo 16g and a fairly large amount of mods. I was only test drivin it at 10 psi but I am told he usually run it at about 17 psi.
THe problem with it is it idles a little bit rough, like it starts to drop and then corrects itself and so on. But the major problem is that when you are driving in like 4th gear. And then you drop it into 3rd and punch it you don't get any acceleration. It's like the throttle is stuck. But if you ease into it and get it going then you can put it down and it screams. It's the same with all the gears. Runs smooth but when you hop on it when it's just cruisin their is just NO response. But if you ease it into it and start it from idle it runs smooth. Help me out guys! I just want to know how serious this problem may be. Everything else seems to work great. Timing, combustion, all that is fine. One other whack ass problem is that they cut the MAFS wires so I am going to have to hook all them up again. ANyone in Colorado would be great if I could talk to them. If not, tell me all you can. Thanks guys! 970-226-2335

check for boost leaks before buying and make them fix the leaks for you. if they are large leaks the idle should go back up after the leaks are fix. then just adjust idle to correct level. why are the mass air meter wires cut? that might also be your problem.

I was told they checked and there were NO boost leaks. The boost seems to run fine. I'm talkin it won't even start to spool or even try to trun the engine w/out the turbo. You can just keep pounding it and nothing happens. You've got to ease it real slowly. COuld it have to do with the wires being cut. Is it imparitive to reconnect them? COuld it be a vacuum leak. Is there a way the throttle just is getting stuck? THANKS

when you do a boost leak from the turbo, it will pressurize your whole system even vaccum lines. i had the same problem until i fixed my leaks. the mass air meter is the air/fuel managment meter for the vehicle. without it can not recieve info for the ecu. find out what air/ fuel managment they are using and what the reason for cutting the wires.

They are using an Apexi AFC but the guy that owns it has all of the dials set at zero. DOesn't know too much about it. He isn't the one that did the mods. Hasn't had the car for long. Do you really think that all it is is a vaccum leak. ALso, when in neutral and you rev it up it kind of jumps and is rough right at 3000 rpms. ANy ideas?

ok i'm guessing he has a MAFT w/ Gm mass air sensor an additional Apexi SAFC for tuning. it should of pluged in without hacking. the boost leak test is only a test. its precautionary on your part to have them do it, also try a compression test aswell it should be straight all the way across. best bet take it to a neutral source to have it fully checked top to bottem for all the problems. like a reputable shop that knows their DSM's and see what they say. if your willing to pay for a full check up of the car it would be very important on your part.
