exhaust routing, 1g?

running the pipe under the axle will not work! i know i tried. i had to replace the pip after like 2 weeks. so i changed it back to stock. i didnt help that my car is dropped 4 inchs though, i might work if ur car is at stock ride hieght

im not worried about the ground clearance, im mainly worried about travel of the axle, i think it will be fine, just curious before i run it. i already measured it, stock height i will have 5" from the ground and my 3" piping. that is the only way to go, over he axle is soo restrictive! any ideas??

I'm pretty sure that almost all 3" catbacks for fwd go under the axle. there's not much room above the axle for 3" pipe and those bends it has to make. I think a 2.5" can fit over the axle though. Hope this helps a little

2.5" on a 1g goes over the axle just fine, 3" will clear over the axle. If you have a rear swaybar on your fwd a 3" will rub against it.

I stand corrected.

So it is ok to run a 3 inc exhuast ounder the rear axle on a 1g fwd? Will it scrape? Imlowered 2 inches btw

I built my own 2 1/2" exhaust on my fwd and ran it over the axle where the stock exhaust goes. 3" is possible but a PAI. I also built a 3" system on my friends FWD laser and i ran it under the axle. You have to hold the wheel/axle up it place(assuming your on a hoist) and then weld the hanger/bracket in place. We got his so that the axle would just barely touch on the exhuast when you put the car in the air and he has little to no ground clearance issues.

-Edit the laser also had his car lowered but I don't remember exactly how much. probably 1-2 inches.

Did his scrape any? on regular speed bumps and mall entrances etc? I mean i wouldnt mind if it just barely scraped but if the shit masivly scrape or slams down ont he ground bad enought o ruin my exahust i dont want that.

My 3" mandrel bent exhaust runs over the axle bar, it is a tight fit but nothing rubs.
Since it goes over the axle bar, I don't have to worry about how low my car is. Right now it is at stock height but it will be dropped soon; again, not a problem.
Do it right the first time.

Cool i guess i cant run it over the axle. I was tld it wouldnt fit. But how much tubing in feet and what bends will i need to follow the stock routing in a 3 inch stainless mandrel bent version? Can anyone tell me what exactly to order to make my own exhaust? I have a welder so i can weld it myself but i need to know exatly what to order to do it. Thankx

You could have trouble running it over the axle to if its not built right. It could hit on the axle or anything else too close when you go over bumps leaving you with those really annoying thumps.

i run mine under the axle and it has never scratched. it also makes for less bends and less tubing, all a plus.

From the cat back (not including the cat) it is approximately as follows:
2.5 ft to a 90 degree bend to 1 ft to a 90 degree bend to 1.5 ft to a 90 degree bend with a flange to a flange to another 90 degree bend to a strange bend in 1.5 ft to muffler.

So basically
6.5 ft piping
4 90 degree bends
2 flanges
1 Muffler

Again, approximations, I over approximated because it is better to have too much than too little.

umm this is a FWD thread. AWD is a little different. Obviously assuming you are talking about the car in your profile.

my bad, i totally overlooked the fact that he is fwd.

Yea, but the rear suspension from a fwd to an awd are totally different. I couldn't imagine running a 3" exhaust underneath my rear suspension, especially with the ST swaybar on there.

Ok so after looking at it all i think i have it figured out to what ill need.

4 90's
4 45's
1 muffler
3 flanges
1 flex section
13-14 ft of tubing
1 shopping cart for hangers :p

sound about right? like stated id rather have 3 ft of extra then 3 ft short of. LOL tomorow ill go and price it all at the cheapest places for you all to see incase anyone else wants to do it aswell. and since im doing a new exhaust i figured id try a new muffler just to see what it sounds like. and ive chosen a titanium burnt tip n1 style muffler, of course striaght thru design. but if i dont like the sound ill just weld my magnaflow back on because i love it dearly. :D

I have a 2.5" that is run over the axle and I am going to be making up a 3". Can you get pics of it when you make it? I was thinking about dumping mine out the side behind the passenger door. Only 1 90deg bend that way, and I will have a resonator or two under the car to quiet it down. If it is really loud, I can always change it to go back over the axle.

You really should run it over the axle, it will be a lot better that way.
