The time has come for me to purchase a set of cams. I am wanting to know what you all think would be my best bet for my current setup to give me a safe maximum powerband.

The reason I am saying SAFE is because I am running a STOCK bottom end with BS elim.

Mods:

Full Head work with OS valves
Crower Spring/Retainer Set
Mits. Metal HG
SBR Cast Manifold
Stock 1G port matched intake manifold
GM Blow Through/MAFT combo
Big FMIC
Supra Fuel Pump w/ custom full rewire
Aeromotive AFPR
SS lines
Denso 660s
Custom DSMChips Chip
Greddy E-01 boost controller
Pocketlogger
PLX-M300 wideband
GT3255 turbo internally gated
HKS race BOV
Full 3" O2 elim exhaust, no cat
Full suspension w/ Poly bushings
Full Poly motor mounts
RPS 2600 6-puck sprung
GVR4 tranny, etc.

I want the most usable powerband that won't be taking my bottom end up too high in the rpm range. I will be running 92 oct. Chevron Techron pump gas @ 22-24 psi. I was not sure If I should go with straight 272/272 or with a 264/272 profile. I have been leaning towards FP2s just making sure before I order them. Thanks guys.

The HKS 272s have made the most HP on all of the dyno comparisons I've seen but the FP2s are supposed to have a better idle, slightly better off boost performance, and even a better top end. I got my set ;)

Here's the their #s for anyone who cares...

Intake:
Gross valve lift: .411
Cam Lobe Lift: .239
ADV. DUR. @ .004 Valve Lift: 259

Valve timing @ .050 3 BTD 29 ABD

Specs are for Cam installed @102.0 center line

Duration @ .050: 212

Exhaust:
Gross Valve Lift: .395
Cam Lobe Lift: .232
ADV. DUR @ .004 Valve lift: .258

Valve Timing @ .050 46 BBD 14- ATD

Specs for cam installed @ 120.0 center line

Duration @ .050: 212

I bought a set of Crower 264/272 brand new. Couldn't pass the deal up. I will probably buy a set of cam gears for them too just incase. ;)

You're confusing Crower with COMP. The reason I did not go with Comp or the FP2s is simply because when I called COMP to get some more info. on their cams, the tech guy was a complete irrogant A$$hole. The guys at FP are awesome though, and I am sure their cams are good too. Just don't want to be buying anything from Comp after calling them.

A buddy of mine has the crower 264/272 cams and has nothing but good to say about them, although there have been a few people who have had issues with them but I assume the problems have been taken care of. His car is similar setup as you have and his idle is almost like stock. I myself have 272s and have no issues the power they yielded me is amazing even on my 14b.

101200 is an awesome profile.... and make almost 20 more WHP on our dyno than HKS 272/272...

Sorry you had bad luck with one of there guys at Comp...

That's what I am hoping for... :D Just trying to decide whether or not to get cam gears......

What about the COMP 101100 cams? How do the dyno numbers compare to the 264s? If the 101200s make more power than the 272s I'd think the 101100 should make as much as the 272s, no?!?!

No, the 101100 is closer to a 264/264 combo... but certainly not as much power as the 272/272 combo.

I know SBR wants to sell you some cams but Forced performance has their own spin on the comp cams.. FP1's and Fp2's same as the part # you were talking about but degreed differently (re-indexed). The differences are not huge and you can duplicate it if you wanted with the standard comps and adjustble sprockets.

I'm going to run sprockets, probably std comps and tune for my exact engine.... On a superflow engine dyno once I get the crank to dyno and hacked bellhousing engine to dyno mount figured out.

Here is the thread and the dyno sheet...

Yes, I remember reading this thread over and over a few times.... They are not trying to sell me some cams, I bought them off another member who lives near me for $410 shipped. I did not want Comps because their tech guy was a complete A$$ when I talked to them. FPs are good, no doubt about it, but I am not giving comp any business in any way. Nothing against Forced Performance, they are great guys, just do not want comp cams. :thumbdown

I guess it is hit or miss

A guy at crower made me :( :thumbdown  Big time...

I'd PM Anoldsman here (works for comp)... He will win you over... Best 4G63 cam help ever because he is a DSMer not just a cam company employee...

Atleast talk to the guy ok?

Well I allready bought a set of Crowers, but when I come accross his name, I will PM him and get the low down. Thanks for the advise though. :thumb:

I beg to differ, if you dont agree then post facts to back up please

here are the comp cam 100 specs

intake
Gross valve lift .407
Lobe lift .4070 (more than 272s)
Duration at .004 251
Duration at .050 204

Exhuast
Gross valve lift .391
Lobe lift .3910 (more than 272s)
duration at .004 250
duration at .050 204

Dyno numbers:
On a small 16g i gained 36awhp with just these cams at 25psi and at 20psi i gained around ~17awhp

So if AMS did their pulls at 20psi ( but they did roughly 23psi and then fall off to 19psi as the RPM's climbed)

264/264 gained ~14whp and the 272/272 gained ~16

I went from 287awhp to 304awhp at 20psi 17awhp gain
And then from 302awhp to 338awhp at ~25psi 36awhp gain

Again on a small 16g, and comp cam 100s

i reamber reading a thread in here not to long ago when somone dynoed 6 diffrent camshafts and posted the results. it showed the hks 264/272 as the winner. i cant seem to find it though.
