who among all these dsm vendors, sells built trannys for dsms, or any trannys? ive looked thorugh so many sites and seen none that sell transmissions. any one know of any? just a curiosity qest. for future reference. thanx

thanx alot hobbes. i was looking at the those awesome gear sets and was wondering: they sell "higher"1st gears-upto 40 mph in 1st gear! does this affect torque/rpm/powerband? any explanation in detail would be great.

Does it affect tq/power at the engine, nope. At the wheels, you bet. It is a higher gear ratio (to get higher speed) wich means it is less of a torque mutiplier, so torque/hp at the wheels goes down. That is for people that have too much torque at the wheels and spin all 4 tires all day. I sping through first but I still dont consider myself ready for taller gears ;)

I got mine done at www.shepracing.com John Shepperd is that guy running mid-high 9s in his street class car... I got mine doen for a very competitive price (with stronger 3-4 gearset, billet shift forks, etc) and turnaround time was amazing. A great guy, highyl recomended, and some entire club DSM regions use him almost exclusively. Not saying he's the best, just letting you know whats out there. HTH

It all depends on what you are going for. Most people would never really take advantage of a taller first gear maybe even the double cone synchro 2nd gear. But in a car that wants to run mid/low 11s or someone with a big turbo it should help out with traction and the 2nd gear lag.

I know a few guys that road race, and I dont think they spend much time in 1st :) But the taller 2nd from TRE may be helpful. But I'm no road race expert... I say those gearsets are best suited to dragrace cars running 10s or better where 8-9k rpm shifts are hell on synchros and the closer ratios help out.
