I want to increase boost in my 91. For a little back ground the engine came out of a 91 tsi and was put into a 91 esi....i switched all viable parts (ecu/tranny/etc....)it runs great....the engine has 130,000 on it and the head and valve covers gasket were placed at 128,000...

Can i turn up the boost safely without busting it. The pistons, rings, cams, valves, rockers,--everything IS stock. I don't have the time or cash to put in new pistons and rings right now. So any feed back would be helpful.

I would upgrade the fuel pump to be safe. Then add a MBC (manual boost controller), and adjust your boost. If you could at least borrow someones data logger, it would help you alot. I was running 15-16 psi on my 14B.

did you have a functioning and hooked up knock sensor?

i would get a logger and you'll know for sure.

on my 91 i run a big 16G @ 20psi on pump gas. no fuel computer and stock injectors. but i have other mods to make this possible.

I say about 15-16psi should be no worries if your engine really is installed right.

I run 18psi (Blew the tranny though, but has nothing to do with boost)
Here's what I got:
SAFC - (settings are richened up a bit to cool down high EGTs)
Underdrive pulley
Nology hotwires
Basic MBC
Silicone vacuum tubing (stock rubber tends to crack with age, so you end up with boost leak and not know where at)
Sidemount IC with fogger.

and most important: Gauges to keep an eye on everything.
I can't sress it enough: Don't raise boost without a boost (and preferable EGT) gauge !!! Stock boost gauge isn't woth sh!t !
