Head Rebuild

Im in the process of a budget rebuild of a turbo engine for my soon to be turbo conversion. I pulled the head off the turbo motor and now im looking either for a replacement or an intown rebuild. The head had 1 broken roller rocker and 1 seized one. The cams are scored under the cam caps. All valves look great. However one spring threw its top hat and broke that roller as I stated above. I found the top (retainer?) but i dont know where the keepers went. What whould you do on about a $600 head rebuild?

Rebuilt Head
Rebuilt Head 2
Rebuilt Head 3
Revised Lifters

Ok now I wanna reuse the roller rockers from my 2.0 NT head as theyre the same rockers and are in decent shape at 160k miles, but my dad and friend say its not a good idea. What do you think? Where can I find them New and Cheap?

Im leaning towards Rebuilt Head #2, the listed new lifters, and a good set of used cams (local), and reusing my 2.0 NT rockers.

the second isnt bad, ive talked to that guy before, seems like a good guy. Just re-use your stuff with it. Clearwater offers the 300$ head tho, thats a complete head, just send yours back as a core.

clearwater even offers a mild ported complete head for 575$, send yours back for a core although being broke probly wont get full core refund.

My head is complete, minus the keepers on 1 valve which are ###### hiding in oil somewhere in it.

Clear Water Stage 1

Thats a really nice head, Im glad you pointed it out to me. I wonder if it comes with rockers and lifters. It says complete with cams, springs, new valves and guides, but says nothing about rockers or lifters. And I definetely want the revised lifters. You got anymore info on clearwater? Complete to them could be uncomplete to me

Thumbs up Ebay Heads from J&C..

I had REAL good luck with J&C Enterprises Cylinder Head Exchange! -I got the ported and polished 1G head to replace my OE head that had all of it's exhaust valves get munched when the TBelt failed prematurely at 51K. It came loaded with cams, lifters, and rollers. My ONLY complaint was that no studs were included (NONE! NO intake, exhaust, or even the 3 coolant housing studs on the side of it). -Get your stud pullers out and have a blast!

If you are REAL interested in the work that they do, you guys can see the assembled head in my gallery, or email me directly for some detailed pics that I took before I slapped it on. So far, its been 100 miles later, no problems I went with the standard 85.5mm Cometic HG + Permatex's Copper HG spray, and ARP stud combo for my 1G 7 bolt. The head I got even came with a 1 year warantee! -I only spent $489 on it! -I am REALLY impressed with them! -I'm even going to get $35 back for my core that's all F'ed up!

1G-specific Cheap head(s)

Here's a link for an auction that has already ended... You can do what I did, and call Tim at the 800 number at the bottom of the page and he will work things out with you... He does offer two different heads... One is just rebuilt, the other is rebuilt after being ported and polished. Both of them came with recycled hardware (cams, rollers, lifters), but I already purchased a set of the revised lifters from SlowBoy Racing for about $150 for the set of 16, and they were installed in the head that they sent me before I slapped it on.

Here is a link for the PORTED head:

Here is a link for the NON-PORTED head:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...931298800&rd=1

Just remeber to get a stud puller, it you don't have one already, so you can remove your old ones... Or be prepared to have a whole new set of studs for the head (intake, exhaust, and coolant housing).

According to Tim at J&C, he doesn't do anything with the 2nd gen heads, just the 1st gens... He did have the later 7 bolt 1G head and the early 6 bolt 1G heads in stock when I got mine about a month ago now (there are differences... 12mm vs 11m head stud clearance in the head mounting holes, different coolant dia runners, and 2 larger outer exhaust manifold studs).

If you want to see more pics of the head I got, email me directly.
