recently i installed a boost controller on my 95 gs-t. though i only turned the boost up .1 bar (roughly 1.5 lbs), i notice that when i'm on the gas, my A/F meter goes to rich like most cars are supposed to as a safety thing. however, when i pass 4500-5000 rpms it crawls over to lean and stays there. i was under the impression that cars were supposed to stay rich the whole time. is this just a characteristic of all turbo cars or can my injectors not keep up with the demands of my engine at high rpms? should i not turn the boost up any more until i can figure this out? i'm confused.

Throw that gauge out the window, it is worthless. If you want to find out your a/f, go to the dyno or buy a wideband. That gauge you have is nothing more than a colorful display of lights.

what boost are you tryin to run?
and is your profile current?

that A/F gauge will help you out it gives you the broad range of where your fuel mixture is in. its not useless dispite what some people seem to think.

as you start modding your car more and or boosting higher you will need a better way to monitor your car. as Mirage2LTurbo suggested.

as for now since you just want to boost up a little bit that should work fine. :thumb:

my friend gave it to me for free..its a 'flapper type,' not the usual ball and spring. i'm going to pick up a ball and spring one in less than a week, but until then the crappy one i have on there only raises it from .8 bar to .9 bar (11.75 lbs to 13.5, roughly). my goal is to do the fuel pump rewire and run about 15-16 psi for a little while until i get the rest of the stage 1 stuff goin. my profile is current now, i just updated it but i didn't make any major changes.

are you sayin that since the gauge is 'worthless' then any problems with being lean that i think i'm having are just bs and theres nothing wrong?

Your original question was based on the fact that you installed an a/f gauge and you think it's lean. rsr93, if you think they serve any purpose, tell me what a/f 3 yellow lights stand for? I had one on my old 4g63 Mirage, and put it alongside a $2000 Autronic wideband, and me and my friend helping me tune with it laughed at how terrible it worked. The a/f would be holding at 11.6-12.0, and the damn gauge would be going psycho from rich all the way to lean.

Like I said before, get use of a wideband.

No, it's a characteristic of the stock DSM O2 sensor. It's essentially a binary device, telling the ECU "too much/not enough". Trying to read an A/F meter off of one is like asking your girlfriend if a turn signal is working- yes it is/no it isn't/yes it is/no it isn't.

If you want to try and check your tuning with an A/F (Aperture Filler) gauge, you need to at start with a broadband O2 sensor,

or at least have the A/F calibrated for the narrowband sensor.
