Where do i go now???

Hi all,
I have a 91 GSX. Salvage title, body isnt too straight, and engine has lots of problems.
I really want to start out on a new foot, but I dont know which path to take.
Should I go with an engine rebuild? buy myself a JDM engine? rebuild my engine and get a 2.0 shortblock upgrade, or something to that effect? I am sort of on a tight budget (not looking to dump $20k right away) I just need some expert advice on how to get this thing going. all suggestions will be much appreciated.

Wow... Did you get this for free?? 1G's are fairly cheap these days and for the money to fix yours up could get you a good running STRAIGHT car.

Anyways enough of my .02.. You can get a Redline rebuild kit from SlowBoy Racing for $500, and rebuild it to stock. You could see if you can exchange the 1G pistons for 2G pistons and get the rods fitteed to match. Also get a timing belt kit and replace the timing belt and tensioner and pulles so you don't have to worry about your rebuild getting toasted due to a shotty timing belt...That and machine work would probably run your about $850 total. That is including misc. small parts that you never think about breaking and needing replaceing.

You have a 6 bolt which is a good start. Your drive train might need some upgrading if you plan on putting some serious power down later on. Mainly just your rear diff getting upgraded to a 4 blot. But that is what others say. I haven't seen or heard of anyone tearing one up.

So that is my take on it. I'm currently in the process of gathering all the parts to build a solid 2.3 stroker, but my budget is more like 3.5K for motor and head.
