I know this is a controversial issue of whether to use it or not but I choose to use it this time. My friend gave me some but it doesn't have any instructions marked. I'm assuming I put it on the bearing surface ( in the groove? ) then torque everything down to spec. Then unbolt it and compare the size of the plastiguage to the markings on the pack? What are the correct bearing clearances for a 2g gsx? What if I'm off ... I have to have it machined and go with oversized bearings? Last time I did a rebuild I used standard sized stuff and had no issues that I know of and I didn't plastiguage it. Now that I'm building my "strong" engine I want to make sure everything is PERFECT.
 
Turn the engine upside down, lay plastiguage across the bearings surfaced (not lubed) and torque it all down. Then unbolt the caps and use the package to check the width of the plastiguage.
I cant remember the specs off my head, but usually you want to go with a little more clearance for running higher rpms.
You can use scotchbrite pad on the backside of the beargins if you need to make more clearance. Dont scratch the side that rides on the crank.
 
yes you lay plastigauge width wise not length. measure it compared to whats on the package(wider=less clearenc, thiner= more clearence). from what my book says : crankshaft oil journal clearence .0008-.0020in or .02-.05mm.

Hrmph. Only controversy is if the motor assembler is too lazy, or too rushed. Otherwise, you're looking at a couple hours' labor versus a motor that'll run a decade.
