mitsu paper gasket and silicone?

When you guys install a new water pump or front case ... anything that has a mitsu paper gasket to seal it ... do you just replace the gasket and put it back together or do you replace the gasket and use rtv on it as well? Last year I used both the gasket and rtv but I've had people tell me it's better to just not use rtv with that stuff. What do you guys do?

use a really thin coat of blue RTV on both sides of the gasket - not blobs of it but just enough to coat it evenly. the paper gasket by itself just won't hold.

I always RTV everything. RTV rocks. It is the gaskets equivalent of a zip-tie.
