building my new TSI engine with a GS block. My gs block has no piston oilers and I have read that most people block them off for racing. Can they be taken out of a turbo engine and put in or is it a mute point. I do want to put some miles on this engine to get used to a turbo as I have never driven a turbo car before. Do the Letters on the rods mean anything or are they just like dates or plants where they were manufactured. I got 3 sets of rods and was wondering if one might be better than the others. This is my first 4g63 rebuild and let me say. Looking at the engine from the bottom.. OMG these engines are kick ass. The oil pickup tube is as big as a big block chevy. Im pulling the mains off tomorrow and ordering some pistons. Has anyone used ITM pistons before? One more thing 242,000 miles and the bearings look great. Pistons also very little scuffing if any. I ran mobil one the last 90,000 miles. Can I just weld a plate over the hole where the balance shaft was? and then put in a elimator kit.
 
Yes there is a spot on the NT block for the knock senser, it is in the exact same postion and alreay threaded. No you don't need to put in the oil squiters they aren't needed.
 
When eliminating the balance shafts, I cut the rear balance shaft an inch away from the pump and mig weld the hole up. ALOT easier then opening up the oil pump. For the front I flip the balance shaft around and use it t hammer the bearings out them hammer em in rotated 180 degrees. If you manna mig those oil holes shut though, do it.
