Well Today my Friend and I tackled the Big job of Installing my Evo 3 16g, FMIC kit,650's,190 pump and some other junk.

We started at 8:30 in the morning, we pulled the rad. and proceeding to pull the Turbo and Manifold, everything was going very smoothly. We ported out the manifold (which is very easy with quality carbide bits) and started putting the Turbo on. I didn't have any new gaskets so we just used some silicone.

Then the problems started...when we were tigthening up the Manifold one of the studs broke off flush, we tried to use an Easy out to get it out but that broke off inside and we couldn't drill it out so we just left it.

On to the FMIC, everything fit pretty good except 2 of the pipes didn't line up so we had to use a piece of my stock IC pipe and make it work.

650's dropped right in.

I also put on a Dejon Intake which doesn't fit right on the Evo3 ( it hits the wastegate actuator)

We tried installing the Fuel pump put the lines were really rusty and it was getting late so we just left it for a later day.

I Took 2 mins and through some high and low settings into the S-AFC, Pulled the fuse and primed the turbo for abit then fierd her up...she starting right away and to our amazement there were no leaks anywhere and the fuel trims were almost dead on.

Took it out for a real quick test drive running 10lbs. Car worked real good (took me about 30 seconds to get use to the extra lag) It feels really strong especially up top. It's creeping up to about 15ish but i'm not worried since Im gonna turn it up anyways. I saw a Max of about 1850hz which I thought was pretty good for just getting her running.

Well it was a really long day and there's lots of little odd's and ends to clean up but the majority of the work is done, I'm happy. :thumb:

Didn't really have any time to snap Pics, but here's 1 my GF took.

Sometimes on cars sh*t happens and you get pissed off but, you keep on wrenching and sometimes it works out sometime it don't glad to hear everything worked out :D

Especially wiht my Car, shit always breaks, I didn't think we would get all the big stuff done in 1 day, I'm just glad there's no leaks and the car runs.

one of my turbo bolts broke too recently ... it crossthreaded inside the exhaust housing though. Not fun :thumbdown

Ya I have no Idea how I'm going to get the Manifold Stud out...short of taking it off and having it machined out at a shop...I guess I'll just leave it and hope for the best.

for a 16g you can get a new exhaust housing pretty cheap though ... for my turbo its $400.

The manifold studs are 22ft/lbs so they don't need much to hold them down. Basically snug plug a 90deg turn kinda thing. If it's a middle stud, it will not leak for a little bit, but it will eventually leak and you'll have to get it out. If it's an end stud its gonna leak eventually but it will be a big ass leak eventually.

You can definantly get it out, find the hardest drill bit you can buy, then drill it out and use a screw extractor to remove the broken stud. Start with a really small bit and work it out. Also spray plenty of wd40 on it while you are drilling.

It isn't hard especially if the radiator is out.

you used silicone for the gaskets? you cant mean you used silicone for the turbo to manifold gasket

The FMIC kit is made by JR...he sells them on Ebay.

The easy out is broken off flush inside of the Stud, all the drill bits I have won't even touch it.

We used High heat gasket stuff on the exhaust Manifold.

Here's a Pic with the bumper on, I still have some adjustments to make so don't worry.

He only advertises the 1g kits but if you E-mail him he will tell you everything you need to know. His customer service is by far the best I have ever seen.

I did the same thing you did with breaking the screw extractor off in the stud, but I did it to 3 of them.

Here is the easy fix, get a normal size dremel carbide bit and just keep chewing at the center, it will eat the broken extractor, then just keep chewing out as much of the stud as you can, try to get the walls as thin as you can, and then get a set of sears big bolt extrators and get a small torch and heat the crap out of it, as long as it is real hot, it will back out so easy, heat is the key :thumb:

On the last one I did, I even used one of the older style 4 sharp sided easy outs and one of those even worked.
