My car is currently in the shop getting an engine overhaul and the mech told me that he would be able to eliminate the blance shaft when will also eliminate the need for a balance shaft belt. He says the only drawback is that the car wouldnt run as smoothly, but will gain greater HP. He says he has done this to other cars, but is this ok on our cars?

He will be putting the engine back together in a few days, so I need to know asap. Thanks for the help!

Cool you're in Sac too.
Have him eliminate the balance shafts with a kit like this, or have him order the parts directly from mitsu.
Print this out for him, if he needs it.

The only reason the balance shafts are there is because without them you'd
feel the engine vibration more in the car.
They do not balance the crank or anything like that, so don't worry about that.

BTW, it's not just a balance shaft, there's a front and rear balance shaft.
The front one runs off of the Balance Shaft Belt which is turned by the crank.
The rear shaft runs off of a gear in the oil pump that is driven by the main T-Belt.
Make sure he follows the FAQ step by step.
You read the VFAQ too so you will learn and understand the why and how of this mod....

I did this job with my motor in my car.
Many say it can't be done, but I did it.

im going to be removing the engine from my car in a little while and would like to remove the b-shafts but am wondering how much more the vibrations will be noticed from taking them out when the rest of the engine is completely stock

At idle you can see your steering wheel vibrating a tiny bit.
You will feel it at first, but after a day or so you won't even know it's there.
Do you know what condition your motor mounts are in?
If you need to replace them, nows the time.
I casted urethane resin into my T-Belt side motor mount, so my vibes are probably a little stronger than a stock car.
Don't sweat the vibes, they're very tolerable....
