ok guys, here goes
I have a 91 eagle talon turbo engine that I recently installed in my truck. The engine starts up fine and revs up fine, but it idles like absolute garbage. It revs up, then dies down, and revs up and dies down. After searching endlessly for vacuum leaks, I found that somebody (former owner of engine) removed the idle screw in the throttle body and filled the hole with silicon. This is obviously is not good, would this cause an erratic idle? If so, does anybody know where I can get an idle screw? I just checked the dealer, and they said it comes with the throttle body, which is $400........
anybody got any ideas?
thank you VERY VERY much in advance

the dealer you talked to is wrong, you can order them separetly... you might just want to talk to someone else in parts.

I replaced my BISS screw about 4 months ago.... infact, because I'm in a good mood... these are the part #'s from an early 91 Turbo 4g63 for the screw, the O Ring and the plug (you should have all 3)

MD614948 --- screw
MD608806 --- O-Ring
MD614150 --- Plug

-That's interesting.:thumb: is it a direct bolt on to the mighty max tranny? did you relocated the throttle body or it's the mighty max intake?

Go to www.conicelli.com and call their Mitsu. parts department...1-866-221-0913. I think his name is Josh. He sold me a biss screw and the o ring. You just might want to buy the biss screw and get a O ring from a local auto store. The biss screw was under a buck(I think .88 cents) and the O ring is more than the biss screw. LOL. I think it was a couple bucks. Hope this helps.

-Try the junk yard, it's cost more in shipping than the price of the screw itself.

What year and model can u do that swap on, does eveything fit and work porperly. :dsm:

thank you very much for the info and part numbers, i really appreciate it! i cant wait to get it running right!!!!!!!
On the subject of building my truck...... Here is my story: i owned a 1987 dodge ram d-50 (same as a mighty max) a few years ago and loved it except for the performance end of it, So i sold it because i just couldnt take the slowness anymore, so then over last winter i had the chance to buy a 1990 mighty max that needed a little bit of work for $400. so i bought it. then i went to the junkyard to try and figure out what kind of engine i wanted to put in it to make it fast, and suddenly, there it was... Tucked away in the corner of the lot i wasnt supposed to be in, was a 91 talon with the entire engine and trans still in it. it had a broken timing belt and bent valves, so they sold me the whole setup for $250, (good deal). my truck trans didnt bolt up to that block even though the 4g63 and 4g64 are the same block. There were two different bellhousing bolt patterns on the 4g64. so i went back to the junkyard and found a rwd trans that would fit my 4g63...($100)....
ummmm.............i will continue this story when i get home from work, my boss is pissed.......
thanks again.

So anywho, i went and got a 5 speed rwd transmission out of an 87 dodge ram-50 because it had the right bellhousing bolt pattern. I made a custom intake manifold out of the original 4g63 one and mixed and matched lots and lots of parts off random cars. The worst part of the whole project so far was the wiring. Wiring the turbo talon harness into my truck was not easy at all. Bolting all the stuff together is very do-able, but making all the parts work together is the tough part. That is the stage I am at right now. The engine runs, but not good, and it drives, but not smooth. So the moral is, so far, I probably have about $1500 into it I would guess, and that includes a full custom tweed interior, and all the parts I have bought, including gaskets and red wire loom (hahahaha thats so ghetto, but i gotta have it, adds 50 horepower!) I would say I have easily had $1500 worth of education in this project, so even if the truck never runs 10's as a daily driver (hahhahaha, everybody's nearly impossible dream), at least I learned something from it all.

If I'm not mistaken it sounds like your ISC is bad. It is a common issue on 1g's and some 2g's. I have heard of some people putting or using silicone to hold the BISS screw in place so the BISS screw won't fall out. I have read some discussions n the past where some people were misteriously losing there BISS screw, so the silicone was what was used to hold it in place. But... I have never heard of anyone just taking the BISS screw all the way out purpously just to to fill the hole with silicone. Without a BISS your idle will be screwed up. Nice set up by the way!

Man thats sweet, if u could get a tranny that would hold up to the hp that would b sweet. Im sure with everything working it would b a funny little truck. I wanna c how it turns out for u, keep us update..:dsm:

i pulled the connector off my isc to see if tat was the problem, and the idle still went way up, the way down, then way up, and way down........very erratic, so i assumed that it couldnt be that going in and out. then after i saw that the hole where the idle screw should be in was filled with silicone, and no screw, i assumed that must be part of the problem........i am gonna try and get a biss tomorrow.......

thank again for the help and nice feedback
ps never thought of the evo intake.........

-Hi Jeremy, did you get the entire Talon part car to do the swap with or just the motor? I have been looking for a project car, my plan is drop a 4G63 into a 89-90 Mirage couple turbo, I had been keeping my eye open for the last 2 yrs and have yet to find one, your project seem very attracting to me, and there're plenty of JDM motor dealers here.

i just bought the engine/ecu/intercooler from that car. it was a pretty complete car when i found it, but now there is almost nothing but a shell. if you check the junkyards on a frequent basis, you can usual find complete cars that need engines pretty easily.
thats would be a pretty cool idea you got there, i think you are on to something.....
if u have any other questions dont hesitate to ask....

i do have the coolant lines hooked up to the throttle body, but i havent checked the fiav yet, i will try that this weekend. im betting that is the problem. is there any way to mickey mouse it to run without that if it is messed up? im storngly considering a huge cadillac northstar throttle body anyway.....any thoughts?

Just make a block-off plate of some kind. I did it with a can of soda.

Take apart the throttle body and just block the valve. You can find it by following the chanels for the coolant. Cut a small rectangle out of the can, open up holes for air, and RTV it between the 2 halves of the t-body, then reassemble. Of coarse, this will disable your motor from ideling high during warmup, and you can just get rid of the coolant lines.

I think there might be a better description of this somewhere. Try a search on DSMTalk.
