I'm just curious, but what's the point of having an external wastegate? I did a search in the forum but couldn't quite find exactly what i was looking for. Like what are the advantages? Do you only need it if you plan on running monster amounts of boost? How does it route back into your exhaust? I heard something about that you need to replace or get ride of the o2 housing part. I dunno what i'm talking about here. HELP! Thanks :D
 
main reason for an external wastegate is for HI boost applications because it eliminates BOOST CREEP.

dont want the boost spiking too hi on a big turbo or kaboom
 
You can get beefier springs for most external wastegates, which allow you to run high boost levels.

The internal you can get for the AGP L2R is supposedly only good for 25psi. What's the point on a turbo that size? Extreme Turbo supposedly has a adjustable internal wastegate on the Mutts that allows you to run any boost, low or high. I'd like to know if that really works.

Basically, you get what you pay for. External wastegates (good ones) are pricey things that take up room under the hood, but they work well. Talk to someone who has the internal wastegate setup you are looking at before you buy. If they like it, maybe it's worth getting. I stress the *maybe*.

Robert at Forced Performance has said he thinks internal gates on his Green turbo are stupid. Yet he sells them. :confused:

Probably the external dump tube makes the biggest diff. in all reality.
