I got stuck in bad bad dallas traffic and overheated, because the radiator wasnt flushed and contaminated my coolant to brown sludge. So it blew a headgasket, 0 compression in cylinders 2 and 3, 100 in cylinder 4 and 75 in cylinder 1.

Anyways, me and my friend are going to work on it and get it on the road asap. Ive been doing alot of searches and pretty much it broke down to if i want my car for street use i can use the stock oem headgasket and arp studs. My friend has all the tools we'd need and we both have manuals and extensive knowledge but in other cars, never an eclipse.

Is there a write up of replacing a headgasket anywhere?, I saw the www.vfaq.com but i havent searched thru it extensively. My timing belt has 100 miles on it so i wont be replacing it too but ill need all those other gaskets. How long do you guys think it'll take 2 ppl to replace it? Also i dont think it got hot enough, long enough to warp the head but ill take a straight edge to it. Any tips or tricks you guys can put in is appreciated.

New to the scene but alrdy loving my car for the 30 minutes i was able to drive it.
 
If you have 2 knowledgable people on it, you can do a head gasket in 2-3 hours.

As far as I have heard, the stock head gasket is ok for lower performance, but if you want to be safe and can afford a little more, go w/ a cometic or something.

ARP studs are a must!
 
I replaced my heaad gasket my self a week ago and it took about all day(8 hours), but it was my first time. When I took off my head a few nights ago to put a new head on my car I took a few short cuts and it only took about 3 1/2 hours and I also saved some money by not getting a few new gaskets. If you want more info on the short cut just ask and Ill check this post in and hour or so.

If you overheated the car and that caused the gasket to go, chances are just replacing the gasket won't fix your problem for very long.

Have the head checked for flatness by a machine shop and milled if necessary. Usually when you blow the HG due to overheating, you end up warping the head.
 
Couple of things....

In my experience, the stockers felpro and OEM head gasket are the best way to go, especially if the head is not perfectly ture. A MLS gasket or something like it may not seal correcly if BOTH surfaces are not perfect. An OEM or Flepro are much more forgining, and with "my" torque specs, I have not known one person as of yet to streach the stock bolts or blow a head gasket.

As for head warpage, I have a head on my colt right now that a machine shop told me was out of spec. Funny thing is, it was, but obviously it is not a problem.
 
Sure man what are the shortcuts i'd be interested. Im going to take a straight edge to it to check for warpage. Whats the cheapest i can get oem head gasket and arp head studs for? Also this isnt on topic but i know dsm trannies have the 2nd gear synchro grind, mine has it too. Is there a rebuild kit out there for our trannies that get rid of that problem or is it something that you cant fix, and have to live with. TIA
