Hey whats up everyone..well heres the deal. My thruster bearing went a 2 months ago and caused a bit of damage. Luckily it was under warranty so I got my short block replaced. The car was running great for about 2 weeks (with the exception of my turbo). So I get in the car one day and I hear a knock in the engine from pretty much when I am shifting any in the first 3 gears (a little in 4th & 5th but not as noticeable). So I take it back to mitsubishi figuring it was a tranny mount that was broken because they had just replaced one. When I go and get the car they told me it that what was broken is my front and roll stops and that it would cost me like 420 bucks to repair it. I then call my mechanic and he tells me he hasnt heard of a roll stop. So, my question is has anybody heard of this part? Does that sound like its the problem? I had to threaten them about going through my lawyer to get them to do the repairs, so maybe theyre exaggerating the problem. Either way I'm not sure what the hell is going on. If anyone has any idea feel free to e-mail if thats more convenient. [email protected]. Any help would be appreciated.

Roll stops = motor mounts (front and rear) as far as I know. They could certainly make noise if loose or broken, and if they just replaced the short block I'd be about 95% sure it's their fault.

if they just replaced your block then chances are they messed up something with your motor mounts. how many miles are on your car? usually you hear about mounts going bad at like 140k+ miles cars. and usually one goes bad at a time, at least thats what ive seen in my experience. how many miles are on your car? is there a lot of play/engine movement when you rev your motor?

How can someone break a motor mount without intentionally doing it? Those things only really break from high mileage or a lot of spirited driving and hard shifts. I'd like to see a person physically break one with it out of the car and without tools..

The car has 79000 miles on it. I did no "spirited driving" since I got the car back, trying not to mess anything up more. Like I said i thought it was a trans mount because one was "snapped in half" and it made a similar noise until they replaced it. Last question, does $420 sound like to right price to replace the front and rear motor mounts? I thought it sounded a little steep but i'm not sure. Its a pretty loud knock I hear and feel from 1st to 3rd not as bad in 4th and 5th. Thanks for the help guys.

try and get them to do it. they had to take the motor mounts off to remove a and replace the short block. its probably there fault. if not do it your self. 420 sounds like alot. hell while your at it put in some poly mounts.

If they just replace the short block then they messe it up. Make them fix it. I really doubt they are broken, I bet the rubber inside has become messed up and it is just hitting as the motors moves back and forth. Get poly inserts for 80.00 and have them put them in or try it your self. If they are truly broken then go to a junk yard and get them for maybe 20.00 or so and then do the poly mounts.

they are easy to replace. Front is really easy .. back isn't bad but it's a pita to reach. Buy them at the dealership ( $75-90 ) and put them on yourself.
