Alright heres the deal, I broke my stocker center diff in my 97 gsx a few months ago at the drag strip. I went ahead and put in a welded center diff, well I just got done changing the passenger side front axle cause the boost was torn. Got it all back together and put in some new redline heavy duty shockproof oil (rated for transmssions) since the other stuff was like water.

Took it out for a quick spirited drive around the block, when I went to pull in the driveway (the curb is kinda steep) came in at quite and angle and all the sudden POP POP POP from my passenger side axle area. Same sound it made when my differential died.

Now heres my question, did the stress from that and shitty welding cause the welds on the diff to break loose? So now I need another center diff? What else could it have been, transfercase output shaft maybe (I hope not) and dont think so since the rear tires seemed to chirp when I backed it out wondering wtf that poping was.

Can a welded diff break? Did mine? Damnit now I have no way to work, does anyone have a stock 2g 5speed center diff they want to sell me ASAP!

Thanks
Chance

Did you remove the vc when you install the welded diff? if not, you broke it and ends with the same result. Pull the side cover and see. I just recently droke my center diff and installed a tre spool. It works for now but we will see if it lasts.

Why are you going back? I have a spare open diff and vc also if your deal falls through. It is out of my spare tranny but in good condition. I will never use it since I am happy with my spool

HAHA old post but I'm pretty sure that it is not the VC that is broken since the center diff is welded. In fact, the VC will stop working so you can even replace it with VC eliminator kit.

I really really doubt that you will ever break our spool. It very tought and features more spline engagement which will also keep the front pinion shaft from snapping at the splines.

Hey Jon, a quick question about your product:
Does your spool will work even if my shaft (the one with gear at the end) that enters the center diff by the VC has no more teeth on it?

LOL....nope.

Sorry megadan, you'll still need those.
