My car will be done with its maintence tomorrow. Here is what i did...high pressure headgasket, valve job, water pump, hydraulic lifters, mainifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets and all belts including the timing belt. How many miles should it take to break it in. My friend told me 500 before im hard on it, what do you guys think, more or less?

I personally believe once you let the car fully warm up and drive it for a mile or so it's broken in. I mean .. how do gaskets or pumps really break in?

yeah, i mean if you want to you can just give it 500 miles to break in. when i got new lifters i gave it about 800 miles till i began driving it hard. lifters need to kinda adjust to the cams.

I would let the car warm up all the way and recheck the torque on the head studs. If thats all good I think you would be good to go!

I have heard and seen the damages that the tripple element gasket that Mitsu makes. . . in most cases the head gasket will fail first. this is the CHEAP way to prevent further damage. you usually stop driving when the gasket fails. I saw a guys 1g after he pulled a nice mid 11 run, but he got that thing so hot, i mean hotter than the fires of hell, and the triple element gasket held!!! but he blew a rod and melted a piston. now he understands why the head gasket fails first.

wow, my 2 cents for free! that saved you 2 pennies!

I think he goes by dgreen here on dsmtuners

Huh?!?! This guy was asking about headgasket break in ... his is replaced...

you didnt list head studs...im hoping you threw a set of arp's in there...and also, what "high pressure" HG did you use...mitsu metal? cometic?....

theres no break in period required for the stuff you did...even with that said i would personally drive it a couple days, let it go through a few heat cycles just to make sure. keep checking under the car for leaks after its sat and pay attention to your gauges.

if you did arp headstuds with the molylube (again i hope you did) then it shouldnt require a retorque as long as you did everything right.

i know his was just replaced, he states that in the first paragraph of his post. I was trying to gleen some additional info/experience with this headgasket. I was not trying to inhibit him from completing his modifications, I was trying to give him more information than he had before as I am fairly confident he would like as much information as to the pros/cons of his modifications.

Mitsu told me the same headgasket would be the best, but I didnt feel that it was inline with my desires.

you could pm me with this consern rather than try to bash somebody that, upon further review, you would find had comments directly related to and about the subject of this persons questions.

There is no breakin. Just let it warm up and keep an eye on you boost gauge you might need to adjust your MBC.
