I have 159 miles on my car now since my rebuild. If I just drive it normal and park somewhere at night I see a slight hint of white smoke escaping from under my hood by my headlights. If I beat on the car and then stop and look I see a lot more. Friends tell me there's nothing not normal coming out the exhaust and the car runs and drives fine. No overheating or anything. Anyone else have problems with mysterious smoking after a rebuild with forged internals and a new turbo? If I pop the hood I can't find a trace of smoke anywhere ... only when the hood is closed you see a little escape by the headlights on both sides. VERY wierd...

oh yea ... engine has a forged rebuild with good compression. Turbo is also brand new. As soon as I pop the hood when it's idleing the smoke seems to dissappear until I close it again  .

White Smoke = Coolant / water
Blue Smoke = Oil
Black Smoke = Running rich

Check to make sure your not leaking from the head gasket. Somehow water is leaking somewhere to cause white smoke.

It wouldn't be the head gasket because then there would be white smoke coming out of the exhaust and he said there wasnt. Are you loosing any coolant?

Its probablly squeezing coolant out of one of the connections. Also if a lot of coolant has been spilled on the radiator it tends to take a while to burn off. If it is showing up from under the hood then it's something burning locally right there. Chances are its not anything inside the motor (that would come out the exhaust)

yea that's what my thoughts were too. If you pop the hood though you can't trace it to wear it's coming from ... it just sorta "dissappears" until I shut it again. the harder I run the car the more it does it. We did spill some coolant when we were filling it, but I thought we had wiped it all off. Nothing comes out the exhaust so I didn't think head gasket either. I do have a metal gasket which are hard to get sealed, but like I said .. no smoke out the exhaust.

I recently had the same problem. I had white smoking coming from under my hood. I chekced all my coolant lines and noticed one of them was clamped way to tight causing it to tear a bit and a little bit of coolant shot on my exhaust mani and that's what caused the white smoke. It may have just been the coolant you spilled burning?? Check your coolant lines

do you have a powercoated exhaust manifold or some sort of other painted stuff on the engine? it may be just the paint burning off.

I checked all my coolant lines and no signs of tears. It smoked a little bit at first today, and then after like 10 - 15 miles it stopped. Maybe its ok now. 250 miles now into break in. :thumb:

Only thing I had "painted" was the new 3" intake from AMS. It was installed the way I got it from them ... but maybe that's what it was. Its black  .
well, glad you "fixed" that shi, more like it fixed itself, you best be at the next meet now, or imma beat u with a crankwalked crank upside down yo head, ya hear cuz :p

hehe yea as long as nothing else breaks or goes wrong I will be there. AMS has a swap meet coming up I might go to on the 13th I think it is.
