Do the BPR7ES's come pregapped? If so....

My friend let me borrow his cheap spark plug gap tool. When I measured some brand new/uninstalled plugs that I have, it reads it as .025. I know they should be between .028 and .030. Is this tool that I have inaccurate, or is this the gap that comes from the factory?

1 mm is 0.039", which certainly is not what gap you want.

There is no standard gap for NGK spark plugs. They have different factory gaps, and you will need to look at the full part number to figure out which one the plugs you bought have.

You want them at about 0.028".

I Assumed that my new 7's were pre-gaped...put them in and the car missed up top big time, pulled em out and the Gap was at 40, put em down to 28 and the car ran fine.

Moral of the story, never assume anything

I don't know where NGK gaps their plugs. But the last two sets I put in were both right at .030 out of the box. Who knows.

every set of bpr7ES's ive ever bought came pregapped at .030 I check them everytime anyway, and usually go a little lower.

Yep, same here. I re-gap/check all my plugs before I put them in. Just saves you the hassle of taking them out again.

If you're still on stock ignition system, 27-29 is probably about right. If you're running aftermarket ignition, you can get away with a larger gap. I remember reading an article about Steve installing twin 500CDI boxes on some blown alcohol dragster, and while he was wiring them up outside the car, he said he accidently gave it power, and it started arching to the ground in the wall over 2ft away
