I just spoke to Mike at Road Race Engineering and he suggested this kit to try to prevent crankwalk since I'm buildin up my 7 bolt. It doesn't cost much so I'm going to give it a try. Their site is www.crco.com

Here is the info on this kit:

The Concept Racing Crank Bearing Alignment kit fixes one of the fundamental design flaws in 1990-1999 Mitsubishi 4g63 Motors. For years people have wondered why there has been mixed results dealing with thrust bearing issues. We have studied what seems to go wrong with these motors when the the thrust bearing fails. Most blocks that we inspect that have had failed thrust bearings have shown uneven wear on the cap bearing vs the crank bearing. We have seen this especially if the motor has been converted over to use main studs. We feel that we have found a big piece of the puzzle in getting the thrust bearings to last. At this time, We are not marketing this as a fix to "crank walk" Our kit does fix a fundamental design flaw in the motor and fixes the motor so that the main cap thrust bearing can carry lateral load without shifting. Our kit also makes it so that you know that the lower and upper thrust bearings are properly aligned.

"Street Kits" are designed for those that are concerned about alignment issues and keeping the cap from shifting from excessive lateral load.

"Race Kits" have the same benefits as the street kit, but the 10 dowels stiffen the block to minimize stretch and add strength to the block

We realize that it is a simple part but because of the need for tight tolerances it takes a expert machinist to make them. We also realize that this is something that the Mitsubishi world needs to help solve some major issues with excessive crank end play (crank walk) especially if the motor has been converted over to use main studs. Keeping this in mind we have set the price of the kit such that it would be cheaper for you to purchase it from us than to go have it manufactured.

Hehe I won't get into it and this thread will not start into a preventing CW argument. This dowel kit has been around for while and you can try it everyone(including me) wil recommend going with a 6-bolt. Also it's not just the dowel kit that makes a difference, Make sure your machine shop is very good.
