I just got a GM MAF w/translator, and was wondering I can get a free intake from my friend, from dejon tool, and use the GM in the stock location in front of the turbo.

Or I also got the SBR FMIC Kit, and should I just get some nice silicon couplers, and put the GM maf after the BOV but before the TB.

My question is, is there any difference to where the placement of the MAF is? I am a newbie to the gm maf.

If you place it after the BOV you can vent the BOV making the higher whistling noise. If you have it in the stock location then you cannot vent.

Either way, it will be an upgrade to you 1g MAS.

either place will work fine...for the ricer in you, you can put it after the bov and vent if you want to....or you can put it before the turbo..

Alright just making sure, I have always vented back in, so its no big deal. I just wanted to know if either place had an advantage to the other, and I could care less about the bov noise.

Thanks.

just a wild thought i got when reading this, do you think it would be possable to rig the stock mas after the blow of valve and be able to vent atmosphericaly?

Try it and see if it works. It would probably make alot of people happy if you succeed.

now that i think about it it might not work because the air coming in would be under presure and i dont know if the mas can figure that out, but it wouldnt be that hard to do an experiment. too bad my car doesnt run

one of the nice things about putting your maft near the intake manifold, but after the turbo is that if you ever blow off your intercooler pipes or something like that, you can still drive the car and the ecu will not be expecting air that isnt going into the intake manifold. i dont know if that makes sense... its late and im tired. ill explain more tomorrow though. basically what im saying is that if you are in deleware and you live in NY and you are driving home and you blow a pipe off or something and you need a new coupler, you can still get home without the coupler because your mass air flow sensor will be detecting the air that is getting sucked into the intake manifold, and not the air going directly into the filter.

Putting the MAF in the IC pipe is good too because a blow-through set up allows one to run just a mesh screen like some pantyhose on the compressor inlet; some even run the turbo at the track with nothing in front of the compressor. This is a big deal because the average aftermarket air filter drops the pressure of the intake charge .5-1 psi and removing this restriction will by itself reduce the pressure ratio that the compressor has to support at any given boost and this increases efficiency.
