difference between 1g 7 bolt and a 2g 7 bolt?

Hi everyone. As some of you know, my bottom end went out. I was planning on doing a 6 bolt swap, but I can't get ahold of one for less than 1700 around here. Yesterday when I was searching the scrap yards I found a 93 turbo engine complete form teh throttle body to the 02 housing for 300 bucks. The question I have is what are the differences in the bottom ends between a 1g and a 2g 7 bolt? What wouuld it take to bolt this into my car? (I know I should go 6-bolt, but I figure if I can get it in there for 500 bucks, then I can save for the 6 bolt...) I don't want anyone telling me to just wait for a 6 bolt either, as of right now it's really not much of an option.
 
from what I hear 1g 7 bolts are much less prone to crankwalk. Not as strong as a 1g b bolt ... but better than teh 2g 7 bolt. Throw it in and if anything happens then do a 6 bolt swap. At least you should be able to keep your 7 bolt flywheel :cool:
 
Go for it, I know its been done, just not a common swap.
I would think most would be the same as a 6 botl in a 2g. Just use the 1g CAS and eliminate the 2g crank sensor. Then you should be able to swap a 6 botl in later if needed easily.
 
The diff is in the oil galleys in the block - the 1g 7 bolt's oil squirters feed off of the main oil galley like the 6 bolts. the 2g 7 bolts, however, feed the oil sqiurters from the crankshaft bearing galleys. <-- this is why they get cw, cause the oil goes to the squirters instead of the bearings 1g blocks dont have this problem
 
so for installation would I do the same thing as a 6 bolt, except I get to keep my flywheel?

Also... I plan on getting different rods and pistons and having the crank balanced/etc. Since I'm doing all of this, I was thinking about maybe making it the 2.3L hybrid. What would I need besides the crank/rods/pistons/rings/bearings to do this? any machining? Does anyone have a parts list? is this even a good idea?

1. Was the 7 bolt local to Rapid City? If you don't buy it, let me know where it's at because I'd like to pick it up.

2. I'll buy your old motor off you.

3. PM me, I've got info on a potential 6 bolt for you in the state.

4. I might be making a road trip back there the last week of May. If I do, I'd be willing to pick up a 6 bolt local here for you and bring it along, if you find one here. Or, I'd also be willing to pick it up for you and pack and ship it for you, given you are picking up the shipping cost. I shipped two short blocks into Rapid for $67/piece when I was back for Easter. Head and other block hardware was an addition $30 or so in another container.

4. Did you try B&B in Belle F.? There is also a 94ish Talon sitting around the backside of Worth Ent. off of Campbell street by Dodgetown. Not sure if it's a Turbo car or not. It had snow all over it when I stopped to look.

Again... does anyone think that going for the 2.3L is a bad idea since I'm already going to be buying most of the parts (I think... ) does anyone have a parts list?
