Garret vs. Mitsubishi??

I've done some poking around, forgive me, I'm a NooB, but which is a more seamless upgrade? 20G Mitsu or one of the Garret turbo's?? I'm assuming the Garret's have more power, but I'm not too keen on ripping a whole bunch of parts apart. Either or, you are gonna have to get a larger exhaust manifold as well as 3" intake, downpipe and catback, correct?? Thanks..

depends on what your goals are. a properly setup big 16G/20G can net you very low 12s on race gas. garret turbos are more efficient and versatile as you can choose your trim. but if you don't want all out crazy stick to mitsu turbos as you can reuse your stock mani, o2, etc parts.

want a half mitsu half garret? go with a frank 2 like mines... good for mid 11s properly setup on an AWD car

I went with the straight garrett setup, just because I wanted to be able to customize everything about the turbo -- there are literally hundreds of options you can go with on a garrett.


It is not cheep to go with a pure garrett turbo though, figure $600-700 for the turbo, $500 for a GOOD manifold (you can get adapters, or a cheep manifold... but to do it right, it's not cheep), and don't forget about needing a custom o2 Elim/Downpipe, for another $200 - 300 depending where you go.

So your at $1300-1500 for a setup, when you can get a green or a L2/L2R which will perform just as well for 99% of the people out there.

I beleive they got rid of the franks. they don't sell them anymore.. That just wath I Heard. i personally like AGP turbos and Forced performance ones.

If I were to go with:
AGP L3R
polished T04E housing.

should I get the 2" - 90deg bend will that work with my HRC I/C piping? or do I have to get a custom pipe made to fit my Greddy LG FMIC Piping?

Just wondering because My HRC S20G has that 90 deg bend and my HRC i/C piping match's perfectly with it. to my FMIC piping.

and from the pictures it looks like the turbo is so big that it actually puts the turbo on the passanger side of the motor mount on a 2G. where as my S20G is on the driverside of the motormount which would change the I/C pipe lenght?

What do you think about the 90deg elbow?

And what do you think about the piping lenght? work or won't?

Where did you here this ? As the origionator of these turbos & as succesesful as they have been , why would we "get rid of the Franks?"
Disinformation like that is silly ! Alls it took was a simple phone call to find out instead of misinforming people. The Franks are alive & kicking .
To your supprise, might I let you know that alot of our Franks are sold by vendors that frequently sell on & about these pages .
