I am a gradate of the School of Automotive Machinists, in Houston Tx.(www.samracing.com) and I am curently a automotive technision @ a Chevrolet dealer in WI, but I am working on opening my own engine shop, I have built/helped build engines the put out up to 1800hp(www.tweaked2.com)
now my Question is do you think that there is a market for a 4g63 crate engine, It would be a direct drop in t-belt and all, ported head, balanced, bluprinted, and all of the other trick things that i have learned. and if so what could the resonably sell for?

good call thanks for the input, im not looking for a huge profet but to build a name for my self

I think your best bet is post some sinister time slips, then start offering the motor that put you in whichever bracket you are in... I would take interest...

good Idea I was thinking on geting some dyno charts also to help prove what they can handle I would shoot for around the 350hp mark @the wheels on a fwd that would get some attention.

350hp on stock motor is easy as cake on any year stock 4g63. it'd get little attention, as its no big deal.

Thats true 350 isnt hard at all. Most mechanicly inclined people would rather try to build their own motor for under $2000 rather then buying one for 3-4k.

If there was a rebuilt motor to buy for about 2 grand that had ross forged/1g rods, b/s elim kit, balanced bottom end. I would have bought one.

Definitely would buy that. if something like that was to pop up within the next 2 months, id be on top of that sooooo fast;) :thumb:

and this guy is in wisconsin which is a big plus for me!!!:thumb:

you can rebuild a motor for about 500 dollars using all new OEM stuff. removing the balance shafts is about 6 dollars. If you wanted ross pistons, take 150 away from the 500 above and add 300.

so its about 500 for full oem rebuild and 650 for oem rebuild with ross pistons.

why would you pay 2 grand for that?

unfortunately, im not mechanically inclined and i dont have tools to do a rebuild myself, so if you want ill send you 650 bucks and my engine and you can do all the labor for free P.s. the block needs to be bored out cuz cyl #1 is f***ed

well if youre not mechanically inclined, then send the 2000 to me and ill get it done for 700 and put that 1300 in my pocket.

so basically you just answered your own question: if u cant do it yourself, youre gonna end up paying the 2000

i was hinting that it should cost about 1000, not 2000.

2000 is WAYYY too much.

Well? How many hours should it take a skilled mechanic to take down, and build up a 4g63, we know what parts cost, so now lets factor in what would be a reasonable amount of labor.

machine work isnt free, but its not as much as you make it out to sound.

what kind of crappy rebuild do you do for 600? ross on eagles alone is about 7 bills. it climbs real fast when you rebuild the head, new oil pump, front case, waterpump, all timing shit, a million little gaskets, new rod bolts, head bolts/studs, etc etc.. if you do the motor right, and assuming your machine shop isn't free your gonna spend alot more than a 1000.

now, a "freshening" on the other hand can be done fairly cheap. this is what I think your talking about. reusing most of the subcomponents and just putting a fresh set of slugs and bearings in the motor.

peoples definitions of "rebuilds" vary greatly.

Exactly what I was thinking... I priced out a fully built motor, head and all for well over 2k, for the parts alone. It's just a known fact that you can build a motor for a lot less than say purchase one from a reputable vendor. Just make sure you have a machine shop you trust with your 2k in parts.

You've got my interest. The future is in import engines and fuel injection. At least this is what the Edelbrock guys told me at an IHRA event I went to. Of course a blown 347 stroker Ford does sound nice. Mmm mmm torque. But I digress,

wow--I`d love to live where the machine work is free....

 Someone with a pince of common sense. Its easy to make things sound easy on an internet forum. Lots of people like to underrate quality work for the cheap way around, and by all means they are entitled to it. Put money where it counts ( the motor ). ;)

who said anything about ross on eagles? hes talking about forged on stock rods.

you can do gaskets, pumps, needed bearings, all that crap for ~400.

I have all the receipts from my rebuild I finished this past fall. When I go home I'll get them and post them here. I know I spent about $2k and I did the entire build myself, sans machine work. now this is fully built but it will still give you idea of all the little shit needed.
