Do all MBC's Spike??

I am planning on ordering one soon, probably the Hallman ES (only 50$) and setting it at 15 psi for my T-25 for now, but I have noticed that everyone I read about with a MBC seems to get spike or is this just due to other variables? If they all do then will it hurt my turbo to have a 2-3 psi spike for a second or two? if it does hurt it then am I forced into getting a Profec B or somthing similar to prevent this problem? My mods are lited on my profile if they affect the boost spike..Thanks in advance.Corey :dsm:

Yeah that one is kinda pricey for a MBC, but in this day and age you get what you pay for, it does look like a quality piece though.I looked at your mods and if you trust it with your engine and turbo I am sure to be able to trust it with mine. Thanks for the input.Corey

I have a turbo xs mbc. When I had my t-25 on it was set at 16psi. I was spiking 20psi for almost 9 month. When i took my turbo off it was still in great condition( absolutly NO shaft play, smoke, or any other problems).
That's just me though. When it was spiking 20psi it only just hit 20 and before i could blink it was at 16psi. When i put on my big28 it was different story. Then I ran mbc off the vac line on the bov and almost no spike now. I don't know why someone jusy said to try it so I did.

Yeah I have heard of trying that too, but what do you cap that nipple on the turbo with, it seems like a vacumn cap with a zip tie wouldnt hold but I havent tried it so I cant say for sure..Thanks Corey

I have an Extreme MBC set at 15 psi. It spikes in second gear to about 16-17, but I don't think it's long enough to matter any.

I think that boost spiking is more of a threat to your engine than your turbo. Too much boost + not enough fuel = ping ping ping...or worse. Luckily, the boost spiking usually occurs after shift, so you're only in the middle rpm ranges where the fuel system should be able to handle the increased demands. However, if it were to spike to 20 psi at 7000 rpm on a stock fuel system there would be greater probablity of detonation. Bigger fuel pumps/injectors should help. I have a homemade boost controller and it spikes to about 18 psi when its set at 14 psi, but only for less than a second after a shift. I've never had problems with detonation with the stock fuel system.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to turbo cars, but I think I've got this right.

Its seems the XBC is pretty good, but does anyone run the hallman es just curious?..Thanks Corey:dsm:

cap the turbo nipple w/ a lill 2" rubber cap that fits extremely snug on the nipple. The lil rubber cap came w/ my Dejon Tool MBC-2A....fits perfectly....and gets blown off....take it easy.

This is normal with MBC's, to have slight fluctuations in psi with different gears. It is due to different gears creating different loads on the engine, most of the time you should tune your car's boost with 3rd gear.

I don't think it is proper to refer this as boost spiking, spiking has to due mostly to the wastegate function (i.e. relieving exhaust gas), which is alleviated in part to porting, larger flapper valve, and or an external wastegate.

Im not sure how it would react on a near stock car, but mine doesn soike at all. I have 3" o2 back and ported manny, so that probably helps, but it goes right to 18psi and stays there...Joe P BTW

Don't forget..if your vacume hosing that's connected to the manual boost controller is to long, it will cause spiking also.

I was thinking about the Joe P on my stock Tsi, from what I've read, everyone with one seems to like it

I loved my Joe P!!! It had no spike!!!

I have owned tons of different boost controllers, manual, electric, etc...

Joe P is definatly the best boost controller by far!
