Ok ive located a 1995 awd tsi 5sp with 90k miles for $5500
the body is ok condtion minor dings here and there, interior is good

NO crankwall in sight

Here my question would i be better off rebuildin the engine so i get have a nice 0mileage engine to upgrade or would i be safe just givin it a tune-up and upgradeing it

Go for mods first. Dont rebuild an engine until it forces your to rebuild it. The 2k you spend to get a basic 6bolt block could have you well on your way to 12s if you spent it on mods.

yea just give it a tune up and start modding it.once u get enough horsepower then give it some internals. i've heard the stock internals on these cars can handle as much as 400 hp so u got awhile before u need some hard parts.

If it is a good running motor, then I suggest having fun with it now. If you are at 90K miles with no Crankwalk, then *chances are* you won't get it, so consider yourself to be one of the lucky ones who got away clean. We personally made 400HP to the wheels with completely stock internals with proper tuning on a 2G, so go out and have fun.

It doesnt matter how many miles on the car, it can get crankwalk at anytime. I've seen new motors from the dealer walk after 4,000 miles.

And monkeys could fly out of your a$s too. Read my post again, see where the emphasis is, and decide if my scope was 'he shouldn't go into an already good 90K mile engine and chance getting crankwalk on the new one' or if the scope was 'you are completely safe from crankwalk.'

Total agreement. You may have a freak engine that goes to 200,000 miles still runs low 12s without issues. Then again it could blow after a few bolt ons. Then you will know. It's a win win situation to not rebuild until you have to.
