I have narrowed my front mount search to two intercoolers, the apexi and the dejon tool race fmic. I have a fp big28 and all of the supporting mods. I also plan to run the t28 at about 20psi. My main question would be which of these two intercoolers would give me more pressure drop? The dejon fmic is waaaayyyy bigger than the apexi, but it has the short routed piping. So, in other words, what will give more pressure drop, a smaller intercooler with long piping, or a big intercooler with short piping?

Any help with this would be appreciated...thanks.

Dejon Tool is the way to go. Shorter piping the better. There is a huge thread on long versus short piping floating around here somewhere, so you might want to check it out. The shortest routing is better for spool and less hard on the turbo.

I agree w/ you that short piping is better, but don't you think that cooler is a little overkill for a T-28 at 20lbs? Not trying to argue, but im planning on running that same setup myself and im stuck on what cooler to buy too.

Yeah, I just came back from my buddy's house who just ordered the dejon tool fmic. This thing is seriously HUGE!!! You'd think an intercooler that big would have a pretty big pressure drop, enough to affect the little t28 pretty badly. Yeah, it would be perfect for a bigger turbo, but what would be the best for the t28???

you can stick with the stocker on the T-28, but if you must upgrade get a sidemount from Dejon or the supra one or sumthing like that.

I definitely don't want to use the stock sidemount running that much boost...

Anybody else have any idea???

wops my bad, i was thinking t-25 when i made that post. Im not sure if a front mount would be a waste on that or not, anyone? You could do just fine on a upgraded side mount prolly. Your right 20psi to much for stock IC my bad LOL

with the T-28, you could use the Dejon Tool Super sidemount intercooler if you wanted to save some cash- i had one for awhile with a B16G....big big improvement over the stocker....if your going FMIC, and your keeping the T-28...i belive the Apexi is the way to go....longer piping, smaller core dimension- but enough to cool the 20 psi of air the T-28 will flow.....

The T25 is capable of sustaining 15psi of boost at 5500 rpms. What makes anyone think that an intercooler is going to present a barrier to it flowing the air to the engine? The T28 or any other turbo will benefit from a larger intercooler.

everyone is talking about pressure drop of an intercooler, meaning that the volume of an intercooler might be too big for a given turbo, making the turbo work harder to supply 15 psi of boost from the turbo to the intake manifold, given the xcess volume an intercooler might have....
its kind of an over rated issue, but never the less....

Sort of...

Pressure drop comes from the efficiency of an intercooler to flow air. Lag time (most people confuse lag with boost threshold, so keep them straight) comes from the volume of your piping/intercooler system. Once the system is pressurized, it is pressurized regardless of the size of the intercooler. A more efficiently flowing (internally) cooler will give the lowest pressure drop.

Okay so back to the original question...would you choose the apexi fmic or the dejon tool fmic with the t28???
