Ok I am needing to changs the tranny fluid in my 95 Talon TSi AWD and one of the places called Quick Lube told me they have 3 different types of changes. 1) just a flush, runs about $90. 2) Flush and cleaner, $110, and he said the cleaner normally cleans the filter out completely. They flush it, then put in a cleaner and drive a few miles then flush the cleaner and put the tranny fluid in. 3) same as step 2 but with a filter change also, $150. I do not know much about tranny's so thought I'd post and see if any of these are good options and if not what is a good option. He also said that a synthetic would not be good because since synthetic is thinner it would probably leak. Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Most flushes are usually $100, keep in mind that there is over 12-16 quarts of fluid in the tranny and converter. Not to mention, you need to keep flushing until the fluid comes out clean. Factor in fluid runs $1.80 to $2.80 per quart....
I'm not sure about your mechanical prowess, but I've flushed trannies before for only about $20-$30 (including a new filter), it wasn't very difficult, and it didn't take long at all. If you want to save some money, this may be an option.
Now are you talking a flush or just a fluid and filter change. Just dropping the pan does not constitute a flush. Dropping the pan and changing the filter only takes about 4-5 quarts of fluid. Like I said, an actual flush takes 12-16 quarts, sometimes more. While it can be done at home with 2 buckets, it's often best and less messy to take it somewhere.
No, a whole system flush. Dropping the pan and replacing the filter is part of it, but other than that, all you do is disconnect the trans. fluid feed line going to the radiator. Then connect a urethane hose of the proper width to that and have it empty into a 5 gallon bucket. Once the car is started, keep adding fluid through a funnel in the dipstick tube until new fluid is clearly coming out. Then it's just a matter of connecting everything the way it was before.
It cost me maybe $6 for the filter, and another $20 or so for a case or two of ATX fluid.
what fluid are you planning to use? just curious b/c i am getting ready to refill my a/t ...was planning on just using MOPAR ATF+4 from a Chrysler dealership. or should i use Mitsubish Diamond ATF? anyone know the differences...?
i heard royal purple works good. or mobil1 w/ lubegard. ..but i cant seem to find Mobil 1 ATF anywhere. i even went tried a mobil gas station
I recently found a guy who my dad knows that has his own reputable transmission shop(talked good by people know even know I need work done, etc.) in teh area, and he is gonna do the tranny service( fluid and filter). He said he'd buy everything needed so I am not sure what he is gonna use. I don't know crap about transmissions so I left it up to him. I will however be asking about the lubeguard and other things talked about on the board. I will let ya know what is put in once I get home later.
Ok well got the fluid changed the other day and used Castrol Syntec ATF, sorry it took a day or two to reply. So far no problems at all, no real differences either, good or bad. Found the records of the guy who owned the talon before me and he had it changed at 47K and it was at 89K, so a little long between which won't happen anymore but finally got it done. The guy who changed it for me and has his own tranny shop said no need to run LubeGuard because all the ATF +3 means is it's a synthetic, or somethinga long those lines. I was wondering how accurate that is?
