I recently fried my tranny and had it replaced. The tranny shop I used, which has done DSM-related A/T work before, recommended straight Dexron III synthetic fluid (Mobil 1, I believe). I asked about the addition of a bottle of LubeGard black, like I had been doing on my own since I saw TransDude's recommendation. They told me that on a stock tranny it's fine, but on a tranny that is mated to an engine producing significantly more HP than stock, that the LubeGard should NOT be used since it increases the "slipperiness" of the fluid, which on a higher HP setup is not a good thing.
I always knew that LubeGard was a friction modifier, but I was never sure exactly how it modified-- I had always assumed that it made the fluid LESS slippery. What's the deal with this, and does this tranny shop know what they're talking about or not?
