Anyone lost all gears but reverse with an overfilled tranny? Found the fluid on the stick to be only half inch from the top of the stick. What damage can occur with the tranny this full? This a 94 Eclipse - 62K (got the car for free in this condition) thanks!

Did you check the fluid with the car running in neutral? If you checked it in park you got a false reading.

That being said, a overfilled condition certainly will not cause you to not have reverse anyway.

From what I have heard from people who have filled thier transmissions too far, the stick pops out first spewing fluid all over the place. Path of least resistence when pressure is too high (too much fluid). It can also blow out your transmission seals if I am not mistaken.

Thanks...if the seals are blown out, do you know if they need to be replaced because thay have torn or do they just need to be reseated in the correct grooves? Sorry but I know NOTHING about A/T internals.

Which seals blow out first? I have no idea. Transdude is the person to ask. Why not give him a call at 1 866 82 TRANS.
