I just got my AT tranny rebuilt and now I have problems.

(1) I get the car back and take it out a couple times. All was well until it got stuck in 2nd gear. So I take it back to the shop and they say, "The transmission is fine. We unpluged the TCU and went thru all the gears with no problems. It could be a bad TCU but we dont know much about those things. But the tranny is solid so its not our fault."

(2) I drive the car home still stuck in 2nd. I shut it off and get out to check on an ongoing oil leak Ive been chasing. I get back in the car, crank it up, and from then on if I put it in any gear it dies. Ive even tried reving it up a little as I put it in gear but no luck.

So could all of this be a bad TCU or should I go raise some hell with the shop?
BTW The car is a 91 GSX
Thanks please help!

Replace with a good known tcu and if it doesnt solve it take it back to the tranny shop. I have seen the tcu's on ebay for cheap.

yes you should go change the tcu out with someone that has a similar one to test it....I also had my tcu go out after my transmission rebuild and it was stuck in 3rd.......

I think something is wrong with you TCU module for sure. I have heard numerous cases were the person rebuilt the transmission and then the TCU started going haywire or began to fail.

As the other guys said "if that doesn't solve the problem" go back to the shop and raise hell.

i have the same issue lately, and was wondering where the TCU is located? ive checked under all carpet areas along the driver & passenger side... "thats where it was on my hondas" but no luck?

and have you solved the problem after the new tcu? thanks.

Thanks guys.

I guess Im now looking for a TCU. Ive got to get this thing fixed so I can take it in for the transfer case recall. Ill update after I get a new TCU.

Let me get this straight- these guys rebuilt your trans but, "don't know much about those things"??

I wouldn't dream of telling a customer that, "your trans is fine but you have an electrical problem, I can't fix it- see ya"

It's people like this that make those of us in the trans business look like a bunch of schmucks.

Sorry for the rant.

You should first see if there are any codes stored in the TCU. That should point you in a direction.

Let's not just throw a TCU at the problem 'cause maybe it will fix it.

Scaning the TCU = $95.00

New TCU = $200.00

Im ording a new TCU and ECU this week. If the problem continues after this the next visit to the tranny shop will be with my lawyer ;)

Any chance this could be transfer case related? The recall work has not been done yet.

OK, I pulled the ECU and the TCU sunday and found the caps leaking on both! The ECU wasn't too bad but the TCU was shot. They are now at ECM To-Go getting rebuilt, I'll post after I get them back in the car. Wish me luck.

Ok I had to get new computers because both were FUBAR.
She is up and running and for the first time I see why these cars are so cool.
I gave up a firebird to get this dsm and full boost to red line is bad ass. :D
BTW ECM To-Go is great. Good people, good prices, and fast service. :thumb:
