1G-specific Buschur Racing Upper I/C Pipe Install

I really couldn't wait to get rid of the old upper intercooler pipe (UIC). The stock
unit is restrictive and doesn't look nearly as good as the Buschur Racing replacement piece.

This is a fairly easy installation. We used a socket set, some open end wrenches, a
flat head/philips screw driver, and some needle nose pliers for the small hose clamps.
You also might need a jack, jackstands to access the side-mount intercooler located behind the
passenger side foglight.

Parts Installed

A polished Buschur Racing upper intercooler pipe
(kit included a larger, ported throttle body elbow),
and larger turbo outlet elbow (shown in black).

Step 1

Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts on the throttle body elbow. No need to disconnect the hose from
the throttle body, since it will all come out once in the next step.

Step 2

Remove the blow off valve (2 bolts) and the 2 bolts that secure the intercooler pipe to the
air canister (if you haven't cut open your air can yet). Also remove the hose clamp next to
the air canister (you may want to take out the whole air can like we did).

Step 3

Jack the car up, remove the front passenger wheel, and take off the splash
shield in the fenderwell in order to remove the hose clamp at the top of the
intercooler. You can now remove the complete intercooler pipe assembly
and throttle body elbow.
While we had access to the intercooler, we took the opportunity to unbolt the
intercooler itself and flush it out with rubbing alcohol (let it dry for a couple hours then
bolt it back up).

Step 4

Install the new intercooler pipe and throttle body elbow. Tighten down all the hose clamps. If
they don't seal completely, you'll have leaks - bad for power. Once you've tightened down the
lower clamp onto the intercooler, you can put the splash shield back on.

Step 5

Time to remove the stock turbo outlet elbow (2 bolts and 1 hose clamp) and replace it with the
larger unit. Ours came with a new gasket and new bolts. Double check all connections. Take the
car for a test drive. If you hear high pitched, whistling sounds, you've got leaks. Tighten
down your hose clamp connections a little more and test again.
