Changing External Wastegate Spring

This is for you guys that need to change the spring in your external wastegate. It is suggested that you do not run more than twice the boost of what the spring is rated at. Spring rates can be found here: http://www.tialmedia.com/documents/w3_tial_38_sp.pdf

First remove the wastegate from the car this needs to be done on a bench! So this is what you will have.

Then I removed the top nipple, just use a wrench and unscrew nothing to it.

Second you should use a bench vice lined with a rag or something so that you do not scratch the pretty finish. If you do not have a vice use the following directions (Which I did). If you are using a vice skip this step and just unscrew bolts in vice.
Using the same pattern as changing a wheel (Cris-Cross) from each other use an allen wrench and loosen all the bolts that keep the top on by turning bolts only a few turns-just to make sure their lose. Once all bolts are lose start unscrewing them but leave two bolts opposite from each other in. Now apply pressure to the top so that there is NO tension on the bolts and remove the last two bolts. Slowly lift up your hand to relieve spring tension.

Remove top. I did not touch the seal or valve, if it is dirty go ahead and clean the inside by pulling on the shiny cap with seal or my pushing on the exhaust valve but mine was really clean so I did not bother. Depending on the springs you chose I already had a small red but I wanted to install a large blue as well. Each size spring as there own "lip" to rest on. Install new spring with painted side down, if installing two springs make sure that they don't touch by aligning them straight.

Here comes the fun part. If you did not use a vice then a friend is required in this step. Making sure the seal is not pinched one person should put the top back on and compress it against the ground(hard surface). While you install two bolts across each other tightly, making sure that there is no tension on the bolts while tighting otherwise you will strip the holes. This might take a few tries but we got it on out second try. Once the two bolts are in your buddy can let go and you can bolt in the rest of them.
