when i have my sub in my car, i get a humming noise from what i believe is the back speakers. but it only happens when the audio cables from the headunit are plugged into the amp. anyone know what this may be or a fix? any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need noise filters. If it in the sub its in the rca wires. You could just get a good set of shielded wires to do the trick. What it is the power wire that runs to the amp is causing interferience with your rca/speaker wires.

just one more quick question about this. what would make this happen all of a sudden? i had the same wires and sub in my old car and then transferred them over to the eclipse and had it in there about a year before it started doing this. what should i look for when i look for these shielded wires? thanx again

If the humming increases in pitch with the RPMs of the engine, then moving your RCAs is your best bet.Noise filters probably will help, but are a "band-aid" and don't fix the problem and usually reduce overall output. If it is a constant non-varying hum, your deck is probably grounding through the antenna or the RCA cables or the RCAs are shorted to ground somewhere.Make sure your power wire is ran far away from your RCA's and check amp and deck grounds and the RCAs.Most of the "shielded" RCAs are more a sales gimmick, than they are helpful anyway.

A humming noise from a speaker can also be caused by a poor ground, when a speaker is without a good source to ground the speaker may start producing an alternator humming noise. Before adding any filters check all your connections to verify that there is good grounds and proper continuity. Using a Multi-meter or a VOM will make the testing much simplier

If you get "alternator whine" and it is caused by poor ground, it is usually the placement of the ground, and not so much the integrity of the connection.

i've got a panasonic, don't know the model number. i don't know if i posted this already, but when i take out the rca wires, it stops and when i just touch them to where they plug into the amp, i start hearing the humming. i really do think it was from the back speakers, but i could be wrong. this problem started when my sub kept moving around and pulling the wires. but it was the rca and remote wires that it was really putting the stress on, thats when it started humming. when i redid it, i replaced those wires but still the humming is there.
