I hate the stupid allen screws that come with most knobs, they always come loose within 5 minutes of you tighting them. Anyway to fix this and are their any knobs that just screw on like the stock one?

the aftermarket shfit knob with allen scew are crap. i bought two of them before and returned them after like 1 week. It will always come loose. you could put lock-tite on the screw and put shisme under the knob instead of the plastic crap that come with it. The best thing is to buy a shift knob from mach v. they got some models that fit perfect like the lancer evo knob and others. Trust me dont buy the allen crap. Go with the mach v one. www.machv.com

I just left off the plastic sheath and used a dremel to create some detents in the shift selector and then used a little bit of loctite blue. I haven't tried to take my Momo knob off yet though....

on mine where the little allen screws go in i drilled a small hole and put a screw in and it wont move at all now!! As well lock tight is under it as well!!! Good luck!!

Get a Greddy.

No screws. Holds solid like stock.

Just gets a bit cold in the winter time though.

buy this one, screws right on, greddy "trust" knob, comes with either silver/white/blue/red little sticker tag thing that goes on, gets cold as #### in the winter and hot as shit in the summer though... good weight to it for shifting i like it for $36

I have the same problem. I keep an allen wrench in the glove box, but my shift knob still swivles all the time. Once I get a short shifter, I'll worry about getting it to hold tight.

Might find it cheaper else where.... but 40 isnt that bad...

How does this knob screw on?..... the shifter has no threads.....

Ne one know where to get more of those allen screws? :D
I am down to my last 3.... came with 6.... when I have to re-tighten the screws.... they strip, so I'm gonna take that one tip.....drill some dents into the shifter and then screw the allens in..... but I need more of those small screws!!

A dozen posts before any one mentions J-B Weld. Man, it's like a bunch of sissies want to be able to take it back off again.

You might try a small ball of epoxy putty on the top of the shift lever, and slide the shift knob down onto that. It'd still pop free with a good twist, but would be stable enough until then to not wander.

Still, a poor second-choice to the many screw-on knobs in the junkyard.

For second-hand junk yard nobs, I've had a ball style knob off an 82? accord, make the shifter feel alot shorter. And now I use a knob off a 4g civic that I like alot better than most that I've tried. And I just relized that you have a 2g so I don't know if those fit.

I just re-tighten mine at stop lights if i notice a little play in it. Im going to sell it to my friend though and get a shifter off a 5 speed 3000gt.

Just a comment on the Greddy knob. I had one on for about a year and couldn't stand it. It shortened up the throw and felt nice and solid but if the car had been in the sun I couldn't touch the thing for 20min. I'd keep a towel in the car to cover the thing in the summer. And if it was freezing out I needed gloves. It's a big chunk of steel so it retains heat very well. Just a warning.

I was more referring to shortening up the shifter from the horse C**K that came with the car.

yeap, I was really fed up with those aftermarket "allen screws" shift knobs, I drove to machV and got that 2g leather wrapped shift knob this week, it's simply great, don't have to worry about summer or winter like my old metal shift knob, and it bolts right on, with nice tight grip.

only 22 bucks...

I have the allen screw shift knob, and it stays on REAL tight! I've had it on for over 4 months so far and it hasn't moved since..

This was what I did..

1. Take off the stock shift knob. (duh')
2. Get black electrical tape or whatever color you want, it doesnt matter.
3. Tape the shifter stick over and over and over, but NOT too thick, just enough so that the allen screw shift knob will go over it.
4. Put the allen screw shift knob over the shifter stick that is taped up, and just screw the allen screw right in.
5. Tada! All done.. Thats what I did and it works great. The allen screw will just dig its way into the electrical tape, and holds it in place real tight.

;)

Ok I have the ultimate fix for your loose knobs... sounds bad.. oh well.
Try it before you judge it.
Ok go buy yourself a knob with the allen screws and a roll of duct tape.
Yeah handy mans secret weapon... anyway, take the old knob off and at the top of the lever take duct tape and wrap it around until it sizes the lever to about the same size as the inside of your knob... then put the knob on, it might be hard, but thats good, Smack it on with your fist if need be... then take hte allen screws and screw them into the side, it will go into the duct tape making a shift knob never come loose... I did this on my old Nissan NX that I cut the shifter shorter, so I did that and it hasn't come loose in over a year. I am going to do it to my Talon Tomorrow when I get it... give it a try, I bet you it will work the best. Also I've heard of people using Gum at the top? Sounds stupid... but apparently it works good. Lmk if it works for you as it did for me.

Ack! Sorry didn't noticed Davidle posted the same sorta idea... but using electrical tape... Duct tape works good. :) I guess I skimmed over the last couple posts a little fast. :)

Bizarre. My Momo shifter did this. When it was at a shop, the guy working on it mentioned it to me and I of course told him I knew about it. He then asked where the rubber cap was that came with it...I had no idea what he was talking about. Fortunately he said he had them leftover after an install in a VW GTi and the size I needed was there. Sure enough, he had the piece for the eclipse shifter.

What this was is a rubber cap that screwed/pushed on the top of the shift rod. A variety apparently came with the shifter to fit various cars. This took up all the space between the shifter rod and the knob. This made it so when I pushed on the shift knob it didn't pull too much on the allen screws, making the shifter rely on the rubber cap to keep it oriented properly, and only the screws to keep it down on the shifter.

Now I'm guessing with so many of you posting problems that many makes don't include such a thing. Anyway, my suggestion would be something like the electrical tape solution which accomplishes essentially what my rubber cap does.
