I've tried and tried and the searches come up empty. Can anyone meet the challenge? Make an enclosure, molded to the trunk/hatch area, WITHOUT USING THE SPARE WELL, for TWO 12" subs, and still access/use the trunk? Unfortunately, my spare well is already filled with a nitrous bottle. None of the shops here feel confident about doing it successfully, and nothing online shows anyone that has done it this way. Please, someone show me how it can be done so I can take pic to the shop and say "DO THIS."

it's possible...the volume of the box would be minimal tho......

if you lived nearby maybe i could help out.

I'm a big fan of "punchy" bass over deep bass anyway, so a small enclosure is what I lean towards. Before you go there, yes I know 12's are not "punchy" subs (generally). I use Infinity Kappa Perfects, so they are a little more responsive and clear than most. I was thinking of doing it in two modules, one forward of each taillight in the small recess between the taillight and the shock tower. I just don't know if there is enough room to mount it solidly enough and not have it rattle itslef out. Thoughts?

I have done it. All you have to do is put the subs in an isobaric design so that they face each other and wire them opposite. Sounds just as good as if they were put in a normal box. I have a hinged amp rack and still have full access to my spare tire. I will post more pics in a new thread when I get them.

This took me a hell of alot of time to do as I had never worked with fiberglass before this. The box itself is made out of wood and is molded to fit the side panel with fiberglass. The front of the box is .75 inch plexiglass, it has mirrors and a neon tube inside it also.

Hope this helps,
Nate

That helps some. Thanks. Did you try mounting them rear facing by the front seats at all? I have a rear strut bar that would make your box unfeasable.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean...do you mean removing the rear seat?

The whole thing about the rear strut bar kinda annoyed me because I built the box and then realized that I could't put on a rear strut bar but I wasn't about to rebuild it with the time it took me. I believe it could be rearranged so that a strut bar would work. I have an idea that may work but I would have to take some measurements and check. I couldn't face them back in the position they are because it would have interfeared with getting to the spare tire.

I'm sorry it's a typo. I meant "rear facing by the REAR seats" not fronts. i.e. The back plane of the box would be up against the back seat.

That's kind of what I thought you meant. Yeah I tried designing something like that but with the isobaric design the speaker on the outside would have gotten in the way of the hinged amp rack over the spare tire.
