I decided to paint the Tailights on my talon after reading a write up on this site.

I took them off, Taped everything, cleand them with rubbing alchy and proceded to paint them.

After the first coat there were little bubbles of air almost everywhere on the lights, and after a couple more coats they still haven't gone away.

I guess if anyone who has painted there lights ever had this happen to them or anyone knows why this happend??? any help would be appreciated.

You definetly need to clean them better. Thats what happened to mine the first time when I tinted them. I used some Armorall wipes, and some 1500 gritt sand paper so its all nice and smooth and the tint has a nice surface to stick to. Good luck.

haha i did the same EXACT thing on my 2g talon tails yesterday. Same thing happend to me. I found that it was where you started spraying. Like when you are holding the can infront of the lights, and depress the button on the can your hand is not moving. So its too much paint on that one area...as when you are doing th rest of the tails, your hand is moving constantly, not just overspraying one area. That probaly sounded kinda confusing, but i gotta do myne over too. Its a bi*** gettin all the paint off again. Oh well

Tint spray is very very thin. You probably did clean well enough, but put too much on at a time. When I did my turns on my 3000gt I used about 10 coats of real light spray.

yeah....put just the THINEST layer on (should just be speckled on from a distance, nothing direct) This will lay down a base on which to add more paint to. Give that about 10 minutes or so, then do another layer just like that and you'll be ready to start getting thicker. Because it's plastic, the paint tends to glob together instead of staying spread out.

GL!

Thanks alot for the replies guy's. I think that I put the paint on to thick and that's the problem. Guess i'll sand it down and try it again :thumb:

Did you guys who used the tint paint, sand your lights first? I have the paint and just havent done it yet. All the directions are in Japanese though...so??? Clean or Sand?

i never sanded, just cleaned really well and painted lightly and slowly allowing at least 30 minutes a turn between each coat.

guys having a problem? using that japanese tint spray? try Testors ( yes, the model company) and get a can of tranluscent candy apple red, works better, and turns out cleaner on plastic parts ( go figure?) especially for 2 bucks a can.

i have redded out many tailights with this stuff. it works great. no sanding apply in one thin coat it should get tacky in about 5 minutes, then apply smooth even coats 10-14 inches from tailights, do this in one direction left to right. or up and down.

t.c.

worked pretty good huh?

put it on lightly, coat after coat until it matched up well and then put about 3-4 layers of clear on it. i should really buff them or something, but i'm too lazy.

i did mine before with the stained glass paint, should have used the testors though cuz i like the color better. i didnt sand at all. oh, and make sure you use clear! after driving with the redded out for a year, i went back to the amber and i think it looks good again.

But testors is model paint not ment for outdoor use. What sort of durablility hvae you noticed from it? I wouldn't be supprised it you need to repaint in 6 months with that.

mine's been on for over a year and has seen rain, ice, snow and wind. there's no difference that i can tell between the two. the only minor problem is that if you get really really close you can see a small line from where the paint is on the lights and where the bottom half of the lights weren't painted. its a very small line, but it i won't lie and say that there isn't one.

put it into body man terms for ya its solvent pop or fish eyes.
you gotta make shure you dry off the surface really well and there are some cleaners that react to the pain your using. thus does not alow to stick to certain ares causing the problem you got you can get away w/o priming them if you just sand with very fine gritt paper and wipe off with a dry cloth or blow it off with an air gun
