I'm trying to find out which is best process to use for painting the interior plastic panels. I went the Sem web site http://vinylpro.safeshopper.com/43/cat43.htm?819 where they recommend using the Sem plastic adhesive after using their Sem scuff & Sem plastic prep but I'm concerned that this process might cause my paint to chip in the future? I know a lot of people sand and prime their plastic before painting and turns out good but has anybody tried the plastic adhesive? Thanks any help would be appreciated.

my car has a painted inerior and he said he used white vinyl paint and while it was still wet he painted it the same color. came out awesome real nice and smooth.

Krylon makes a special spray paint that requires no priming, sanding, etc and sticks to plastic, vinyl, all that good shit. I painted my interior with it and it looks damn good :D

Go to an ACE hardware and ask for Krylon Fusion spraypaint. If they don't have it, tell them you want to order it and you can get in in cases of 6. BTW, it has a fan spray head so it sprays just like a paint gun so that's a definate plus also

Holly shit paint that sticks to plastic that sounds great. I gues i'll go with Krylon fusion for the plastics and use SEM for the vinyl hmmm.... but will krylon and SEM have matching black? I guess there is only one way to find out.;)

My interior is done with SEM. Some of the vinyl area's were sprayed with just the SEM vinyl dye spray and the plastic area's were treated with the SEM adhesion promoter first, then the SEM vinyl dye spray. Which ever paint you choose, remember to clean the area with grease and adhesive remover (I used 3M's). I cleaned each panel at least 3 times, then lightly scuffed the plastic with scotch brite, and then cleaned it one last time before applying paint or promoter. The better you can clean your panels the better the paint will stick. My painted interior is going on 3 years now and is still mint; it goes through hell at car shows. People are always scratching at it to see if the paint will come off (then ask me what kind of paint...morons). Anyway, it goes through a lot of abuse; SEM is good paint.

Im interested in using SEM to paint my WHOLE interior. Its grey now and I want to go to black. What would you guys recommend I get to do it all. Im talking the cleaner, prep paint, sprayers, whatever. I just want this process to go as smoothly as possible thats why I ask. GVTalons description will help alot in the process, thanks man.

Maybe I can sway your opinions? This is some more of my interior trim i painted gloss black with Krylon Fusion

Here's my process (and you don't need no fancy-smancy garbage or wads of cash either :D )

1.) Put lacquer thinner on a paper towel and rub all the paint/plastic surface off. The lacquer thinner will burn the surface of the plastic, making it VERY sticky and smooth. Switch between clean towels and lacquer thinner-soiled ones and wave the piece in the air to dry.
2.) Paint! Paint, paint, paint! spray it down. With Krylon's run-resistant formula, feel free to overcoat. I did, and it came out very deep and smooth.
3.) Acrylic. Spray on some clear acrylic for that ultra-glossy finish. Sometimes the acrylic will look uneven if you hose the piece down with paint, so be prepared to compensate.
4.) Let it dry.
