I plan on using rubbing compound soon to get any oxidation and grime off and get a better shine but i need some tips. I know the basic use of RC just not sure if there are any tricks or guidlines to using it. Is there more to it than not using too much and getting through the clear coat? Any special ways to apply it? Hopefully some of you have experience with this stuff. TIA:thumb:

If you're to the point of using compound, it's likely your clearcoat is already shot. If you've not done it before, you might be dollars ahead to have a detail shop hit it for you. It's easy to mess up things rather quickly with the wrong compound and/or the wrong technique.

I work for a detail shop...Compounding isnt really difficult just make sure you leave it on for a couple minutes then what we do is apply wax right over the compound and take it off all at once..when applying the wax which is very important when compounding a car use a hand applicator..then when the whole car is done take it all off and look at it shine...Oh and please please make sure your not in the sun...Later

yeah you can use any kind of compound as long as its for cars..LOL....NOTE: Not responsible for any damages....There wont be any tho you will love the result..mainly beacuse it takes half the time...later

I was given some advise lately that seemed to help with my dull finish. make sure the applicator pad is damp at all times while applying the rubbing compound. Let it get foggy and wipe with a clean soft cloth until shiny, smile at your reflection. Wash the car right after and apply wax.

It's been my experience, the rubbing compound will continue to work over the next couple of months. The finish will get deeper and deeper. I haven't seen any damage to the paint, but this car seems to have been in a few accidents so there is some variation in color here and there anyway.
