Can someone explain to me how a sound system works, and what is needed to have a pretty nice system. I plan on having one in my '95 eclipse rs. I just want to make sure I know what I'm talking about before I jump into it.

Well you need a good headunit and some good upgraded coaxials or components for the front and 6x9's for the rear. That will give a sound alot better than stock.

After that you can power those speakers by adding an amp, usually 50x4 channel amp works well for the highs. Then you can add some sub/subs (8", 10", 12", 15") but if your gonna add a subwoofer you will most likely have to power it also by an amp to get its full potential.

Good brands:

Alpine
kenwood
jl audio
panasonic
mb quart
diamond
sony

Those are some pretty good brands that are popular within car stereo people.

Some other people will probably post in this thread also, i just gave you a quick idea

MA Audio all the way....if you wanna be lightweight go with the Synergy series mids and highs and as for the 6x9....MA AUdio 6x9 subwoofers...like 3 lbs a piece coupoled with a 200x2 ma audio amp nad you got pristine sound man....but be warned the mids and highs are areound 250 and the subs are like 70 a piece....but the amp is only like 300

thats a pretty good sum up of what is needed and brands. i wouldn't go with sony subs but i like their head units. One thing you gotta ask yourself is what do you want your system to do for you. Do you want bass? clarity? Also find out what your budget.

PS
If you ever put a system in your car, i suggest you mat your panals so your car won't rattle as much.:thumb:

MA isn't all that great...It's basically the same as Audiobahn. Their high end stuff is equivilant to the low end JL, Kicker, Diamond stuff...If you want great component's I suggest Diamond Audio's...And depending on what kind of music u listen to.....10s = rock music , 12s = rap/hip hop.... 15's = Rap/hip hop/ lots of bass but not any sound quality to them...It all depends on what you listen to and how much you want to spend....remember you get what you pay for....

you could buy this stuff from me then you would have half of the stuff you need i one shot and since you live in SC we could work out a meeting place so there would be no shipping:thumb:
