yea i am going to be painting my gsx and need some opinions? I think i am going to paint it the original color and have the paint already but i am now preparing for paint and don't know if i should take everything off the fire wall or tape it off? i got my front bumper off and lights. But what all should come off and what should stay in? If you have pictures before and after that will help me out also. thanks :thumb:

Removing everything would first and foremost ensure that everything is painted, and painted evenly. It's a lot more work, but in the end it's worth the trouble. In doing so, you'll also be able to see if anything there needs to be replaced or what not. If this is intended just to be a simple job, then a quick spray and clear is okay with everything taped off, but won't look nearly as good in the end, and has the potential to need to be done another time.

Ok thanks. And how difficult is it to remove the harness and the brake lines and install? I just dont want to take it all out then not remember. I want a clean paint job but i will do extra work for a better paint job in the end.

Removal of everything is pretty straight forward, however I can't stress the idea enough of taking pictures of everything for back up reference. As many times as I've done certain things on these cars, I've forgotten things from time to time, but have for the most part had pictures for reference. Just drain all the lines before you remove them ;) OH, and for the lines, use the proper Line Wrench for the fittings, not a normal box wrench. You'll thank yourself for doing so. A normal wrench WILL strip the outside of the fittings and you'll have to get new hardware, or more likely, new lines.

yea i have taken pictures of the bay so i know where everything goes. What is OH stand for? and i was going to take the clutch master cylinder off and brake booster but don't know if it is hard putting those things back on?

I understand now. sorry i miss-understood what you said

No worries ;)

I don't want to give you the wrong info on the master cylinder or booster. I've never removed them from a DSM so I wouldn't feel right telling you one thing and be wrong about it.

Thanks. So what all will have to be removed before a good paint job? Also the black fire wall protector will you remove that or tape it off?

Remove the black piece all together. It's just sound deadener. Remove all the brake components, clutch components, A/C lines, wire harness, all solenoids runing under the wiper cowl, and you'll have to work around the steering shaft if you're not intendind on removing it. Sorry this took so long, my email notifications aren't working right for some reason.

nice a lot of work but it will pay off. I think i am going to take that stuff off. I already have deleted my A/C. so it should be easy. thanks.and the sound stuff do you put that with the paint?

The sound deadener i put that in the paint when i spray the car or how dose that work? Sorry for any confusion there. Also if i take the black heat stuff on the fire wall off is there anything else i can put in the paint to make sure it don't come off after i spray it and the engine is in and hot?

I see. i think i am taking it off when i paint the car. i hope i have enough pictures of the engine bay. Is there anything else i can eliminate before i repaint? I have A/C and EGR eliminated. anything else i can do or any suggestions? thanks for all the help

Ok cool thanks. And i am going to be relocating my battery also. but now thing of just putting it down on the sub-frame. Any pros and cons about this?

I've never done a relocation in a DSM, bit should be easy to do. Do one in a 2g Hyundai Tiburon and it was simple, but was a trunk location. If anything, just make sure the mounting brackets work out. It will lower the weight better though.
