I just transferred to my new duty station in Germany. I was told that my 07 Silverado 3500HD diesel my be to big for some of the German roads. :sosad: Before I left the states I decided to pick up yet another DSM to play with on the German Autobahns :sneaky: . Its a 95 TSi AWD, but as you can see the paint was in rough shape. It sat in the original owners yard for 5 years being abused by the sun. Then they decided to rattle can the top and overspray the head and tailghts. So i decided to do a $50 paint job to get me by for the next 2 years. I also polished the lenses.

looks great what did you pick it up for?

I was thinking about trying to do a small build out here. E316G w/Link and supporting mods. When i get back stateside id like to do a 30r or 35r build.

My biggest issue right now is getting the trans done. 3rd gear is almost impossible to get so my guess is new syncros are in its future. The thing is if i have to do that i might as well build it stronger now. If i was stateside it would be to easy to send it out to Jacks or Shep. But here i might have to order the parts and attempt it myself.

oh i see ive never tempted a gearbox build so good luck on that. and the future build sounds great, have fun over there

hell yeah let us know what it tops out at it will be nice to know

im curious on your $50 paint job? unless you just bought paint and already had all the supplies then that would make sense.

I was gonna drop the car off at Maaco for a quick spray but i wanted to go even cheaper. I Googled cheap paint job and came across a site the $50 paint job. It about 9 bux for a can of Rustoleum oil based. 10 bux for Mineral Spirits (thinner). And 30 bux give or take for foam rollers and supplies. It kinda time consuming but i wanted to try it. Plus its durable. The guy on the site cut and buffed his to a nice deep shine.

The Site

Rickwrench, Alfa GTV, Falcon Squire, Corvair

Kinda crazy to think this was a "roller" paint job

Where are you going to in Germany, I'll be leaving in the next week.

If you wanted something to play around with on the autobahn you should have gone with a 3000gt VR4. Much more comfortable feeling at those speeds.

I have to agree with the others. That paint job...for $50, is amazing! You should pick up a set of EDM taillights for me while you're there! ;) LOL

car looks great for 50 doller paint job

Thanks i figured for $50 bux I couldn't make it look any worse.

Any plans on bringing something back to the states from Germany?

At first i considered buying an audi or bimmer while i was out here. The thing is when you get it back stateside i would still end up getting taxed pretty good. Not to mention the American dollar is worth less over here so there goes any extra savings. So on paper if you buy a car here or stateside you just about break even.

Also the Military will only ship one vehicle for free so......:notgood:

Car looks great for that cheap of a paint job.

Thanks, next time i think ill borrow my buddies sprayer and try it that way. The roller takes too long LOL.
