So my g/f and my ex-friend traded cars, I was all for it because now she has a talon! and she got it straight up for a grand am! woot woot! Anyways, a couple weeks later I realized how big of a peice of shit this kid was, all he does is screw people over, he actually owes me a lot of money and rips people off all over town, real scumb bag.. anyways enough ranting.

She noticed today after she got off work that her mirror was adjusted weirdly and he car was parked slightly different, it might just be paranoia, but i wouldnt put it by that peice of shit to have held back a key to take her car when he needs to. So beyond trying to catch the guy red handed and keeping track of her mileage, I was wondering if it is even possible to at the very least switch out the car locks like you would with house locks. Granted it would be more complicated than just that, and I never even thought of something like this happening before, but any information would be appriciated.

A lock smith can do it but it does cost a fair amount of money. I had the same prob years ago. The kid almost stole the car back because the kid he sold it to, sold it to me w/o paying him for it. He broke into my garage late one night and my office sits right on top of the garage so I obv heard him, I grabbed the krinkov pistol ak47 pistol that sits behind my desk and tip toed to the back door and as soon as I heard him put the key in the door and turn it I blasted in and as soon as he saw my laser dot sitting on his heart he stopped. I called my neighbor, he is a state trooper and the guy ended up getting five years for b/e criminal trespassing, attempted grand Larson, attempted grand theft auto and carrying a deadly weapon. Before he went to get booked in he thanked me for not killing him and said he was sorry.... The locksmith came the next day and re keyed the door locks I think it cost me about 200 bucks or so. Little idiot is lucky I did not unload on him but I didnt want to risk hitting the car on the people across the cul de sac. But mostly I did not want his blood all over my walls and tool boxes and all over my car.... and his body all leaking on my clean garage floor... You can hide a camera near where you park it and if you happen to catch him doing anything. Give it to the police and the tape is as good as a conviction. Tape does not lie. I installed security cameras on my property years ago for that exact reason. Catch that moron and put him away, one less idiot running around the streets wont hurt anything.

I believe you can change the locks out. It's a bit more of a pain and will be more expensive. Get both doors and the trunk, if you can, get the ignition as well. I won't be cheap though. You'll have to check with the dealer for new locks.

Mitsu has a lock/key kit that comes with the 2 door locks, the trunk lock, the ignition, the glove box lock, and the picture shows 2 keys. But if you order that based off your vin, then you might get the same locks you have now. Maybe they could change the keying for you.

I did this when the wifey and I split. It is actually a lot easier to do than what you would think. I got lucky and found a car in the junkyard that still had a key in it and I took all of the locks from it.

I sorta had the same problem i bought a 92 ecllipse with no keys. got it home with the steering column out of my talon.granted i could get a key from the mitsu dealer but i found another 92 wrecked with the parts i need for my motor build, so i decided to just change out all the locks. i may still get the key later just to have extra locks and steering column.

thanks all for the information, i'll discuss with her some options. Unfortunently cameras at home wont help to much, for when the incident happened, her car was parked at work, and sadly they dont have cameras in the parking lot.

But thanks again, hopefully I can rid the streets of another worthless person soon, or at the very least, protect myself against him.

you could always put a hidden camera in the guage cluster. kinda like they did on some cop show i remember seeing where they set up car jackers. then hopefully he would try it again and get a free ride to jail

Fuel pump kill switch.

:hmm: :hmm: GREAT idea Defiant. I wish I had considered that, But the little nut sack can still get in the car and mess with it. It makes you feel vulnerable to know that some one can randomly just get in your car and start clipping wires or any number of other bastardish things. My vote is get a claymore and blast him back into the stone age LOL j/k.

I actually do have a claymore, 2 quality katanas and a couple other swords designed by kit rae. Maybe it is time to get Medieval on his ass!

LOL wow, that is amazing, i think i will have to do that, do you happen to have a picture of a finished product? just wondering how convincing it looked.
