I'm looking to replace all my stock gauges tach, speedo, fuel, temp and do a custom set up and i was just wondering what would be the best aftermarket speedo? and would a 1997 gs need an electric, or mechanical one?

They are probably electrical so you can splice in the wires to your stock speed sensors and ECU wires.

Autometer and a few other companies make dashes and speedos.

Some even digital.

I'm curious what the advantage of an aftermarket speedometer or tachometer is? Is it purely a look thing or what?

the reason im doing it is b/c i don't want to have a bunch of gauges all over the place (a-pillar, glove box, etc.) oh and b/c i don't like the look of my stuff either, I read they are more accurate but of course that is the manufacture saying that so......you can draw your own conclusions.

My friends stock tack went haywire so he baught an Apex-i and installed it where the stock one was. It came out verry nice and he can play back the rpm's and shift points from his runs. If i was to get an aftermarket tack that would be the one. Check it out, he's buddrinkr420.

i love my apexi tach much more dependable than the stock piece of $H!T kept sticking what i really want now is an accurate speedo that runs over 150 id really like somethingh that reads speeds up to 180 or so if anyone knows of anything lemme know ill only use top quality stuff

buddrinkr420 how did you install it in the same place as the orignal tach? Just curious how tough it was, that is where I would put one if I got one.

I think you're missing the point. He doesn't want to have a massive clock-looking tach on his dashboard, he wants to make a custom cluster. There is nothing wrong with that.

Go get a Stack cluster gauge. All digital except for the tach, which is analogue. Does full datalogging.

Check out buddrinkr420, his apexi tach IS in the stock location. Some trimming and the usual rewiring is required but the end result is a tack that is in the stock location and you can replay your last run's shift points. The thing doesn't look cheesy or rice, it's very functional with a stock appearance.

Ok let me say that first off this was one of my favorite mods i love how it looks how easy it is to see and the cool tricks it does i had to trim quite a bit of the dash and make a custom bracket i didnt wanna put the tach anywhere but the stock location it would look way to rice on top of the dash and it would have blocked my view of the road the end result was worth the 4+ hours i sat in my car cramping up with rocketboy :thumb:

1 question.... umm how do u guys connect the oil pressure , battery, check engine , srs, coolant, and etc sensors..????
