Vortex Generator for a 2G

I've looked to no avail, but I'd love to have a vortex generator for my 2G like the EVO VIII MR and EVO IX have. I'm so jealous. If anyone knows where I can get my hands on one for my 2G please drop me a line

You can get one from any aircraft vendor. It will probably not be as efficient because the 2G does not have a steep slope on the rear window like the EVOs have. The idea of VGs on cars are to keep the air flowing and make the rear spoiler more effective, unless you want it just for looks.

They are sold on ebay Germany for less then 50 EUR. I think it will not look good on our cars.

Short of looks there's very little benefit to an item like this and the new roof wing on the 2007 STi's are probably more effective if aerodynamics are your main concern.

In reality given the sloping rear glass our car aren't in need of these items as much as a sedan with a steeply angled rear window.

Still, who knows. When BMW was sweeping the European Touring Car races years ago, one of the things they did was to put "edges" sticking up from the tops of the hood, above the fenders. An accessory company called Wolf used to make rubber stick-ons, and I put a set on the edges of my 240-motored 510. I don't know if it made any difference, but in the rain, the side windows stopped getting wet. They were only about 5/8" high.

As already linked, small aircraft are using generators mounted on the leading part of the wing, and they're picking up 5~10% in cruising speed and GPH out of them.
We're all still stupid about this stuff.

look exactly like those that Mitsubishi used in their research paper on the effect of the vortex generators on the EVO, hell I'd swear that's an evo outline right there.

On a car with a steep rear glass like an evo this situation is multiplied, but on a hatchback like ours or the 350z they show, the effect will be minimalized. All they do is help fight boundary layer separation, but on a vehicle like ours the amount of boundary layer separation is fairly minimal in the first place. At $20 it can't hurt any, but sems like a waste to me. Maybe I'll throw a set on the talon and see if they do anything.

Edit - Interesting, they say this:

Defiant those strakes were helping to keep the air from rolling over the edges of the fenders and down the sides of the vehicle causing turbulence, that's why your side windows stopped getting as wet. The "roof wing" on that same car is acting in almost the same manner as these little shark fin vortex generators in that it's designed to take the airflow that would normally separate at the leading edge of the rear windshield and force it to stay closer to the rear glass thereby creating a greater volume of airflow over the rear aerofoil and increasing rear downforce.

Subaru just put that same wing on their newest STI. Looks like hell, but it's aerodynamically sound.

no prob when you look at the site they give brief instructions on how to install them and i was actually thinking wow they actually have a certain method not just slap em on and go who knows it just might work. good luck and please post some pics.!!

I havn't had them painted or mounted them yet, just test fitted them to see if they looked alright... I'm still torn whether or not I'm actually gonna install these

Could you take a clearer shot from the back of the car. That looks pretty cool.

I installed mine about 2 weeks ago, and I can tell you, they work. I bought the jet black ones. Now, maybe not at speeds less than 60-100 mph will you notice a difference, but they do create a "vortex." Try this, when its raining, or very dusty, go out and cruise at about 60+mph, and you will see a difference as well as feel a difference... The rain and dust circles off, and then flies straight off the hatch and the wing... I had a friend drive while I watched. Now of course, you are not going to get a 500+ Hp jump with this mod, but for 20 bucks, easy install instructions, and some testimonials that are positive, why not? If I could, I would record it and show you, but I have no idea how to post it... The ones on the Evo's work, and just like the kit, it does the same thing... My buddies 05 Evo MR, he has the Vortekz bar as well, but his as well as mine, do the same exact thing... Take heed to the instructions when installing them... The first one I did was at 20, then the next at 15, then at 10, 5, then 0... I can tell you just from the experience, it does work, maybe not to every single persons "technical" standards... it does what it says it does...
