Has anyone made a paint booth in thier garage? I do not have easy access to one out here, but have a garage and want to know what other people have done to convert ones garage to a decent paint both and the prep they did to get the garage clean and ready where they will not get dust and bugs in the paint job? Thanks

Well, if you have a window in your garage, you're going to want to put a fan in it. Technically, you should put a filter in front of it so you're not blowing all that to the outside. Then cover everything you don't want to get paint on w/ plastic, obviously. Depending on what your ceiling looks like, you may want to hang plastic above the car. Give your garage a real good clean a day or 2 before you paint. This way, after you clean, the dust that went in the air will have time to settle again. Then, just start to paint. Dirt in the paint will be inevitable. However, after you paint, LEAVE THE GARAGE! You do not want to stir up any more dust than you already have while spraying. Come back after it has dried. Then you will need to wetsand to get the dust out that will be there no matter how good you clean. Hope that helps!

I warched a buddy do it in his garage and basicly made a tent out of plastic and had a strng vent fan and a GOOD resperator

I've also heard its good to lightly wet the floor before you start to help keep the dust down.

I painted one of my cars in my garage. My garage is crappy, so all I did for prep was sweep the floor. Got some overspray on the floor.
I didnt get any dirt or dust in my paint. I got one fly in the clear coat, but after I wet sanded it you cant tell it was ever there.

Yeah get some plastic to hang so paint doesn't get on everything. Lots of light makes a big difference. And we used a blower fan from an air furnace to move lots of air. Gotta have the garage fairly well sealed up, so small bugs aren't sucked in and get in the paint. Prob did a dozen cars or so, and learned the tricks along the way..

Me and my buddy painted his car black on a clear day outside and after a couple of wet sands it looked like new again possibly better .But you have to lay it on thick and do alot of sanding.:thumb:
